It baffles me that 67 million Americans can vote for a convicted felon and rapist. In hindsight it's amusing anyone thought there was some kind of blackmail tape someone had on that man. I figure about the only thing that can defeat him is his McDonalds diet at this point.

I feel very smug. You know how backups you have not tested are useless? Well I bought a new SSD and before I install it in it's final location I installed it in my laptop to see if I could restore it from backup.

I can and I've learnt some things about restoring ubuntu systems.

  1. You better have a USB disk to boot from. If your only computer is toast you can't download one so make sure you already have one.

‘Libbing out’ is the latest irony-fueled coping mechanism

"“Libbing out" is an ironic embrace of mainstream Democratic politics, often by disillusioned young progressives. It is the process of abandoning all cynicism and wholeheartedly accepting the elitist, corporate-owned, deeply out of touch Democratic party, even if only for a moment."

I will try not to say anything else about uspol today, but here's a little reminder that politics describes not just voting or partisanship, but the interlocking systems through which power is exercised, by whom, and to what ends. Voting is one of those systems, and so is partisanship, but so are soup kitchens, and needle exchanges, and zoning hearings, and commerce, and on and on. Voting is entry-level political engagement. if you're fired up about the state of things, look for your next step.
