My hot take is, I'm very proud of Zelenskyy standing up to Trump's bullying https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2025/feb/28/volodymyr-zelenskyy-donald-trump-us-minerals-deal-russia-ukraine-live-news

And Trump is now in trouble. Promising to end the war is one of the few things his voters might hold him accountable for, but he can't bully Putin and now it turned out he can't bully Zelenskyy either. And he doesn't know how to do anything else.

Good to see some 'big' philanthropy respond to aid cuts. But it cannot plug OECD DAC donor gaps.

Example:

MacArthur total endowment= $8.9B
Total giving= ~$400 M annually
Projected increase = $150M/2 years
USAID 2023 spending= $71.4B

MacArthur is amongst the largest US foundations by endowment, and globally.

That puts MacArthur's spend in 2023 ~0.006 of USAID (napkin math).

One can't fill a sinkhole with a grain of sand.

Everything else is getting enshittified. Mozilla changes their TOS to sell your data. Bluesky censors political content (then backs off after outcry) and partners with weird blockchain and AI stuff. Everyday it is some new rubbish.

And we just keep chugging along. Nowhere do you get a better survey of what's going on or a better forum to engage with lively intelligent folks about it. No algorithmic nonsense. Just people. You're all great.
