the first part is true, but I am not so sure about the conclusion:

There are JS ecosystem a-holes complaining about how browsers should be faster while they sling workloads so slow that they blithely saturate Turin CPUs, then pray that re-doing the same work ("hydration") will feel good on battery powered, in-order Android cores designed in 2012.
They literally do not understand how fast computers are *on either side of the pipe*.

After Russia invaded Ukraine, I posted a similar message (lost due to post auto-deletion) about the sharp increase in anti-Russian sentiment that we were seeing on Mastodon. Nobody should be ostracized or harassed just because of where they live, *especially* if they’re living under a problematic regime.
@cstross The new movie is trash, but I can't let a Captain America reference go by without linking to this incredible fanfic, "Steve Rogers: PR Disaster".

And with this comes a small update to our Code of Conduct: https://home.omg.lol/info/code-of-conduct
Until now, we didn’t have “nationality” in the list of sample items in the first bullet point. Over the past few days I’ve seen some awful examples (on other instances) of people denigrating others solely based on where they live, and that’s not cool at all.
There is no question that our country is pretty messed up right now, but we’re not going to tolerate hate or harassment based on geography.

Gitea is 1) commercial and 2) based in the US, which I know many people are looking to avoid.
@Codeberg (https://codeberg.org) is a public server running Forgejo, which began as a Gitea fork: https://forgejo.org/compare-to-gitea/ It's where I have most of my stuff.
A few more public Forgejo servers: https://codeberg.org/forgejo-contrib/delightful-forgejo#public-instances
There's also the venerable Sourcehut, whose UI makes me break into hives: https://sourcehut.org/
Want to self-host? @yunohost is dead easy to set up and has Gogs, Gitea, Forgejo, and GitLab apps: https://apps.yunohost.org/catalog?search=git&category=dev
OK with Gitea/GitLab servers outside the US? @Framasoft has a public GitLab server. For cheap independent hosting, PikaPods has Gitea: https://www.pikapods.com/
There are SO many options if you are willing to give up the "everyone on the planet uses the same public Git server" model.

Remember that the enshittification clock starts as soon as a company *considers* going public -- or taking another round of VC funding, even. Discord's monetization moves have not been huge so far, but I never thought they were aiming at modest self-sustainability.
Also, predicting economic outcomes is stupid right now anyway. Anything could happen, starting with the obvious oncoming massive recession and any number of obvious worse possibilities.
