We're starting hear more and more stories of visitors to the US being refused admission at land borders and airports and sent home after days or weeks in custody.

Have there been cases of this happening where US Customs operates at extraterritorial airports (e.g., many Canadian airports, etc)? I'm assuming not, since you'd have committed no crime in that country. If that's correct, such places might be a safer route into the US (not that we're a very good tourism destination right now).

The image is a humorous meme featuring a digitally illustrated Tyrannosaurus rex standing in a prehistoric landscape with some Triceratops-like dinosaurs in the background. Overlaid on the image is the text: "I was born in 19-" The joke plays on how people born in the 1900s (especially the late 1900s) can now seem "ancient" or old to younger generations, humorously likening them to dinosaurs.

@heidilifeldman It's interesting that the article refers to Abiline Airport, a nearby regional civil airport, and not Dyess Air Force Base, which is right on the other side of town. This implies they're using a civilian charter carrier rather than military transport for these flights.

I was looking forward to a case where someone was ordered to proceed with the removals, refused, is court-marshaled, and raises an "unlawful order" defense.

Tomodashi's (@vga256) design philosophy so much resonates with my own, even if my reality/interests and having roots in different social & technological environments/communities sometimes still causes friction/confusion/dilution of principles — it's all a process, an ongoing dismantling & rebuilding, and the path has become more clear over the past 5-10 years... thi.ng plays a major part (and stepping stones) for me in that context and very much shares the same principles laid out further below.

https://tomodashi.com/philosophy

"The sub-Arctic regions of the Canadian Northwest Territories have many communities of fishers, hunters and trappers who live off the land with simple and effective tools. When technology breaks down in the north, there isn't a tech support number to call, or dealership or mechanic to take it to. You're on your own.

This encourages you to care for your tools, and make repairs using whatever knowledge and resources you have on hand. People who live on the land only take with them what they can maintain, upgrade and repair themselves. Big, complex, fragile, expensive, high-performance, high-maintenance stuff is left at drydock.

The elders of the far north teach us that these human-sized and human-shaped tools are extensions of who we are. To care for one's tools is to care for one's community, and oneself. These are not separate things.

That is the key to the Tomodashi design philosophy.

Principles

All Tomodashi software is crafted with these four related ideas in mind:

1. Human-sized things are friendlier, more economical, and easier to learn.
2. The user is both a creator of things and a playful being.
3. Let people personalize, modify, and repair their toys and tools.
4. Imperfect creations feel more human, serene and beautiful.

When human qualities and self-expression become the focus of software engineering - whether it's a game or a programming tool or an IDE - all other arguments about programming and software design become moot"

Star Trek The Search for Spock scene. Our Lord and Savior Spock is pictured in a white robe. He stands surrounded by his shipmates who are all older here than they were in the TV show. Sulu is touching Spock's chest for some reason and he's smiling. Uhura, Chekov, Scotty, and Bones also all seem thrilled to see him. Despite being surrounded by friends, Spock is staring only at Kirk, for obvious reasons.

Known locally as "Big Allis" (after Allis-Chalmers, the manufacturer of the largest of the four generators in the plant), Ravenswood is fired by both natural gas (now the primary fuel) and oil, and also has the capability (rarely used, as far as I know) to burn coal.

Ravenswood has been linked to a spike in asthma and other respiratory disorders among local residents. There is pressure to decommission the generators and replace them with battery banks to store renewable energy from upstate.
