In Medieval Germany, they had what was called Marriage Duels, where a husband and wife could physically fight each other.

To make things fair, the husband had to stand in a hole with one hand tied behind his back, holding a sword in his free hand, while the woman hit him with a bag of rocks.

I'm going to bring this up every time someone has a problem with No Fault Divorce.

A medieval drawing of a Marriage Duel. Thr man in a hole up to his waist with a rope around his middle holding his arm down. He is holding a sword. He has a gushing wound on his head. The woman is about to swing her bag of rocks at him. He has cut her with his sword on the back of her leg.

"Strike" is sailing jargon. To strike the sails is to take them down. With the sails down, the ships won't travel. In 1768, London sailors struck the sails of merchant ships, stopping international trade to protest wage cuts. That's why deliberate work stoppages are now called strikes. Direct action so potent it changes the language for more than two and half centuries.

It's incredibly easy to be full of despair right now. I get it, I feel it too.

Don't let anyone tell you that the people who are doing the best are because they *deserve* it or are "geniuses".

And also don't let anyone tell you that a group of people who by and large who seem to be suffering and aren't doing as well relative to the metrics of the system is because they're not worthy or have failed themselves.

We have to try to build the best world for each other we can, the best we can.

The @w3c WebFonts working group now has a fully functional Demo of Incremental Font Transfer which compares IFT to normal font loading with Unicode-range static subsetting. Just click on "next text sample" to see the font being upgraded in real time to support more writing systems and more font variation axes. There is a running total of bytes transferred, you can see that IFT loads much less data.

Both CFF2 and glyf fonts are used in the demo.

This "portal" type transmission pylon, looking like part of an army of rather menacing giant robots, is part of the Pacific AC Intertie, one of the two major power transmission trunks running up and down the western US. It has capacity for about 5 gigawatts of electric power.

Nurturing a garden where kindness grows,
Where every voice is valued, every heart is heard.

So let us gather in circles,
Around tables, in parks, on the streets,
To share and to listen,
Building a world where harmony thrives.

If we pause, just for a heartbeat,
We might catch the whispers of another’s soul.

In the spaces between our thoughts,
Understanding blooms,
Differences become bridges,
Connecting us in our shared humanity.
