I’ve seen this movie before, and it’s awful. 2/10 on IMDB. But the main characters are masterful actors who excel at deflection, ignoring the central issue, and defending all of the wrong people for all of the wrong reasons.

This week saw a new kind of failure mode for open source projects: a company (Synadia) trying to claw back a project (NATS) that it had donated to a foundation (the CNCF) -- and the foundation fighting back. The belligerents themselves have their own agendas, but @ahl and I will be joined by fellow non-combatants @adamhjk and @rstephensme to talk about their perspective on the shootout -- and what it means for open source. Join us live, Monday, 5p Pacific!
@th Phono jack electrical signaling is one of the oldest standards still in use -- basically as old as electrical transmission itself. With a physical adapter that you can still buy today for pennies, you could plug contemporary headphones into a telephone switchboard from 1870 and it would *just work*.
It is a god damned war crime that Apple took this away from us. I will die on this hill.

In Medieval Germany, they had what was called Marriage Duels, where a husband and wife could physically fight each other.
To make things fair, the husband had to stand in a hole with one hand tied behind his back, holding a sword in his free hand, while the woman hit him with a bag of rocks.
I'm going to bring this up every time someone has a problem with No Fault Divorce.

"Strike" is sailing jargon. To strike the sails is to take them down. With the sails down, the ships won't travel. In 1768, London sailors struck the sails of merchant ships, stopping international trade to protest wage cuts. That's why deliberate work stoppages are now called strikes. Direct action so potent it changes the language for more than two and half centuries.

It's incredibly easy to be full of despair right now. I get it, I feel it too.
Don't let anyone tell you that the people who are doing the best are because they *deserve* it or are "geniuses".
And also don't let anyone tell you that a group of people who by and large who seem to be suffering and aren't doing as well relative to the metrics of the system is because they're not worthy or have failed themselves.
We have to try to build the best world for each other we can, the best we can.
