Pic of woman wearing a mask correctly & incorrectly focusing on nose bridge with pics showing how to curve the nose wire On flat fold masks, you need to un-crease the nose wire before wearing to stop leaks. "Crab Museum comes out swinging for trans people after Supreme Court ruling: Not how biology works"

#TransRightsAreHumanRights #LGBTQIA

Statement by Crab Museum of Margate, reads.. Today the Supreme Court voted to exclude a group of persecuted people from equality legislation. Their ruling centred on the word "biology", with the judge stating that biological sex is "assumed to be self-explanatory and to require no further explanation There are no binaries in nature and biology, like all sciences should never be taken for granted or assumed to be 'self-explanatory". Even worse it should never be used to justify weaponised culture war issues. This ruling is an abuse of science Speaking in a professional capacity as museum of biology: this is not how biology works We have spoken many times before about this - there is immense variation between individuals within a biological sex. Our trans siblings must be defended at all costs. If we allow the limitation of their rights then other minorities won't be far behind Biological sex itself (not just gender) is a spectrum - and it really shouldn't be a big deal If you don't like trans people then just be honest about your prejudices Maybe you'll be next? STRONGER TOGETHER But don't use biology to support your views in the same way that racists do Crab Museum of Margate

The composition plays with the contrast between the ambitiously-sized sign and the humble, rustic old store. The photo is about shapes and scale.

This is also a bit of a nod to Grant Wood's famous 1930 painting, American Gothic. (See https://www.artic.edu/artworks/6565/american-gothic). Wood's painting was inspired by a grandiose, ornate attic window in an otherwise humble rural farmhouse that Wood happened upon during a road trip. The absurdly oversized, incongruously Googie-style arrow sign here reminded me of that.

Captured with a small mirrorless camera and 21mm lens, on a compact travel tripod.

This was a case where I hadn't really planned to make formal architectural photos and so had only a small camera with me, with no shifting lens. I made do by shooting wide with the camera level and cropping, which works but costs resolution and constrains how you can organize the frame. It worked well enough here, but I always feel like I'm leaving something on the table when I don't have the right gear with me.

The image is a colorful illustration promoting a "Cat Tour" in the Hamline Midway neighborhood. The background features a teal wall with a window, through which two white cats are sitting on the windowsill, looking out. Above the window, a string of yellow lights adds a warm ambiance. To the right, a bookshelf holds various books and a potted plant with a rainbow flag sticker, symbolizing inclusivity. A whiteboard on the wall displays the event details: "Saturday, June 14, 10AM-12PM, Meet at Groundswell." The text "Hamline Midway Neighborhood Cat Tour" is prominently displayed at the top in colorful letters. The Instagram handle "[@]catsofhamlinemid" is visible at the bottom, along with a muted speaker icon. The overall design is inviting and community-focused, emphasizing the neighborhood's cat-friendly atmosphere.

Russian former missile cruiser Moskva, seen in original factory condition - out at least on the right side of the water / air interface. The missile tubes are so incredibly Warhammer 40k that it's genuinely a surprise nobody has painted it red so it goes faster.

After a journey that took me from Lebanon at age 17 to earning my PhD in France and working across the global cryptography landscape, I'm thrilled to announce I'll be returning for four months to present a new Applied Cryptography course at the American University of Beirut for the Fall 2025 semester.

This opportunity to contribute to cryptography education in Lebanon represents a deeply personal mission for me. In today's digital world, cryptographic expertise opens doors to innovation, research opportunities, and solutions to complex security challenges, in addition to being an intellectually stimulating field on its own merits. Lebanese students have just as much potential, and can contribute just as much as those from countries with leading educational institutions in cryptography, and I plan to prove that through my course's results and the performance of its graduating class.

The curriculum bridges theory and practice, covering:

- Foundational cryptographic principles and mathematical frameworks, including the provable security mindset, taught using state-separable proofs.
- Practical implementation of stream ciphers, hash functions, and authenticated encryption.
- Real-world applications in secure messaging, zero-knowledge systems and post-quantum cryptography.
- Hands-on labs where students will learn cutting-edge techniques, including on high-assurance cryptography and automated verification tools such as Tamarin.

My students will develop both rigorous theoretical understanding and practical skills to evaluate, design, and implement cryptographic solutions for tomorrow's security challenges.

I'm excited to share knowledge and experiences from my career with Lebanese students who are already part of a rich academic tradition, helping to further strengthen connections between Lebanon and the global cryptographic community.

My course's comprehensive website includes all the information you could possibly want out of the course, and will host all course materials in an open access format: https://appliedcryptography.page

I'll be attending Eurocrypt this week in Madrid and would welcome conversations with colleagues about curriculum development, research collaborations, or simply sharing experiences in cryptography education. Feel free to reach out!

From an early morning scout down on a loch shore, I initially went to see what these small ponds would look like facing in the complete other direction. Raindrops cover the surface of a pond surrounded by autumnal heather and grasses. The scene is framed by a triangular wintery mountain peak basking in morning light and a scattering of ancient pine trees.
