Amazing story about a unique typewriter thought lost & its place in cultural history.

I should have done this a long time ago, but I only had wool yarn on hand. This bamboo sock yarn is perfect for the purpose. And it doesn't matter if my dyed hair stains them pink!

I have half a mind to decorate the top of the headphones with the same yarn, but I don't know what motif... My embroidery skills are limited. Anyone have ideas? #visiblemending #repaircafe

A pair of grey noise cancelling headphones with very worn out foam pads. The foam is peeping out of the split and peeling faux leather. One side has been repaired by wrapping it in pink and red yarn. The other side is a third of the way done, a trail of yarn still attached to a needle. The ball of yarn is pictured next to the headphones.

When I used to teach, I would theme my physics courses and make “teaser trailers” for the next semester physics courses. I could never post these on YouTube because of their hair trigger automated takedown notices, even when parody was in full effect. Here is my teaser trailers for my 3rd semester physics course!

a comic cover for 'Alas'. A giant round skull with a bleeding eye takes centre stage in the courtyard of a prison, to its side are a shakespeare in dramaatic posture, and a more hostile looking alien and gnome. The top of the cover is marked by crennelations

Gramercy Park, which sits between Lexington Avenue and Irving Place between 20th and 21st Streets in Manhattan, is a locked private park. At the center of the park is a statute of Edwin Booth, a 19th century actor today best known for being the less murderous sibling of John Wilkes Booth.

Only residents of the surrounding buildings are issued keys. There are a lot of rules, including against photography, so this is as close as we get. If you have to ask, you don't belong. Go away.

Captured with Phase One XT IQ4-150 and the Rodenstock 23mm/5.6 HR-Digraron, a sharp ultrawide angle that accommodated just enough shift movement to compose this frame. Captured from the now-shuttered Gramercy Park hotel, on a fittingly grey and joyless winter day.

The wide angle and high, single point perspective emphasize the dominance of the private, locked park's local footprint. Rather than creating public space, it seems to elbow us aside.
