Today was a great day. After working on sitting up and sensory tolerance for the last few months, I finally felt well enough to go out in my wheelchair! @izzy took me to a green area near where we live, and then as I was still feeling good she took me into Gateshead to look around Big Tesco. Bought ribbons, plastic cutlery, chewing gum and a blue cardigan (I was cold but it's going to be Izzy's).

To save Izzy's weak girl legs we got the bus back up the hill and apart from not fitting on the first one (the wheelchair bay was too small for my chair) I did fine on the second bus, which hasn't been the case in many years. Motion sickness has definitely improved!

I spent some time in the living room before getting back into bed, mostly because my bum was sore. According to my heartrate monitor, the only time it went higher than my normal was when I was being hoisted, which fits with how I felt. How I recover will determine when I can go on my next adventure, but I'll be living off the memories of today for a while 😊

Danni in their wheelchair with Izzy leaning in for a selfie. They both have big happy smiles. Danni, a white person, is wearing a purple hat, purple top with a penguin, sunglasses and headphones, with penguin accessories. Izzy, a white woman with long dark brown hair and brown eyes, is wearing burgundy glasses and a white dress with large pink flowers. There are trees in the background.

Lots of people have commented on the portrait on the wall of the Hog's Hedge over the past few years. He's Lord Admiral Hogratio Quillson. When I was redecorating the feeders @PhineasX offered to contribute some art to the project, and I *love* him. He's my favourite thing about it.

Not just a great artist of naval ancestral hedgehogs, @PhineasX has lots of other art, prints etc you can look at on https://octophant.us/

A majestic portrait of a hedgehog dressed up in an admiral outfit, with a little hat, gold fringes on his jacket, brass buttons, embroidered sleeves, and little medals pinned to his chest. It's done in the style of old time royal/military portraits.

The issue that has really moved a lot of folks like me who used to be distracted by the "why did they have gun?" argument off to fully into the ACAB perspective is that bad cops are so rarely punished.

It can be the most cut and dry case of murder and the cops get off, typically with ZERO jail time or direct economic penalty.

Literally the same one of the US most well covered cases of police murder had this update . . .

The people who are the very loudest critics of social media are those who find it frustrating that they can’t block or mute decency into oblivion. These are the same people who will call criticism of hateful behavior “toxic” and then call it a “dogpile” when a second or third person agrees that it’s wrong to treat queer people like shit.

Social media has never been the problem. People with hurtful views are the problem.

Social media is *awesome*. The only people I ever see lamenting it are those who feel intimidated by the raw power of open and candid dialogue. Especially when that power is used to hold them or their friends accountable.

Only then does this thing that they’ve previously loved somehow turn into something unpleasant or problematic. But nothing actually changed; they just finally realized that an open forum will have voices that don’t always agree with them.

It's been difficult to separate the new World Trade Center building from that terrible day in 2001, but we now have the benefit of just enough time that we can begin to discuss the tower as a piece of architecture and as part of the skyline, on its own terms.

It's generally simpler to capture tall skyscrapers like this from a distant vantage point; the classic photos of WTC are usually shot from Brooklyn or New Jersey. But here I wanted to show it as it's seen in the neighborhood. The foreground buildings look taller in the frame, but the (much taller) One WTC tower still stands out, given its uncrowded position in the skyline, as if its neighbors maintain a respectful distance.

This was captured with the Rodenstock 70mm/5.6 HR Digaron-W lens. A large image circle allows room for considerable movements, used here to swing to selectively focus on the WTC tower. A polarizer darkened the clear sky a bit, as well as taming some of the highlights reflected off the glass wall of the tower.

The shape of the new One WTC makes the light catch it differently throughout the day and in different weather. I made several exposures at different times before settling on this one.
