I hoped this never needed saying as it should be obvious but here we are ... 😮💨
Let me make this clear:
If you are a normal user on an instance, you must follow their rules - that's the standard you should (and hopefully will) be held up to.
If you are a moderator, the standards are higher: you not only have to enforce those rules, but you have to apply those strictly (the spirit behind them) to yourself as well - but you are also held up to a higher standard because you are a representative of your instance.
And if you are an admin of an instance? Well, let's say that you not only have to live up to all the standards but you have to go above and beyond and not only think about the safety of your own users but also of users all around the Fediverse - you have to judge yourself not just by the rules of your instance but by morals and ethics that lie behind them. And yes, you have to be willing to accept responsibility above and beyond all of that and for all the actions of your users - ALL OF THEM! And you have yo be ready to listen to people who criticize you, your actions, your words, the meaning behind those words and the meaning behind the meaning of those words and so on and so on. You have to choose your words wisely, trash the post you were planning more often than post them; be quiet rather than say something; listen rather than speak...
And you can not be thin-skinned: in the end, whatever your users, and more importantly, your mods, do or say will reflect on you - because you are the admin and you are the one who chose the moderators on your instance.
What I am trying to say is that you as an admin must be ready to be held to way higher standards than even your rules state - if you can't live with it, just leave or shutdown your instance.
