Good vid. Manufactured consent. There is no protest peaceful enough; no level of decorum we can reach. Corporate Dems don’t want us protesting. They want us in our cubicles generating shareholder value. https://www.mollywhite.net/micro/entry/202506161014

This is not a about #darkmatter, the 85% of the universe's total matter. Rather, this is about confirming that a great deal of ORDINARY matter is spread thinly as gas in the spaces around and between galaxies. Fast radio burst signals have been used to provide evidence that this is, in fact, the case.

Extremes thrive by creating artificial enemies. Currently it’s immigrants and trans folks and too many people won’t call out their crap and let them make up stuff, dehumanize and demonize entire segments of the population. I’m not particularly OK with spaces who just shrug and say “let’s get along”. Ok mediocre white dude (it’s always that) they might not be coming after you and you might be safe but saying nothing and doing nothing just enables and empowers the evil. “Don’t worry it’ll be ok if we hold space for the fascists. They won’t come after us” is a take not worth having.

Shit is the same energy as mediocre white dude mansplaining the signal roadmap to the CEO of signal just cuz she’s a woman. “Don’t worry honey I got this. I know what I’m talking about cuz I follow tech”.

And to the two folks out there who spent today talking about me while also blocking me so I can’t respond to any of it, this isn’t “vitriol”. It’s facts. Deal with it.

Can someone recommend a currently reliable source for (non-counterfiet) Cat6 / Cat7 cable? Small quantity; maybe two or three 1000 foot spools. I remember the last time I needed some, this was a like buying a used car.

Photo nerditry: recently had to upgrade the portable external SSD I use for photos from 4TB to 8TB, and went with the Oyen U34 8TB Bolt drive. Performance seems good so far, and it runs notably cooler than what it replaced. (Long-term reliability remains an open question, but I obsessively back up, as one does).

A bit spendy, but recommended.

This was a three second exposure (with about 10 stops of neutral density). The sun was behind the clouds and just above the center of the frame; the lens required careful flagging to avoid glare.

The rendering of water, especially in the sea, differs greatly with exposure. 30 seconds looks quite different from 3 seconds, which is just as different from 1/30 sec, which is different from 1/1000 sec. About 1/30 sec renders roughly the way our vision does; anything else requires a camera to see.

A photo of President Barack Obama is at the left on a solid green background. Obama is quoted as saying “Juneteenth has never been a celebration of victory, or an acceptance of the way things are. It’s a celebration of progress. It’s an affirmation that despite the most painful parts of our history, change is possible - and there is still so much work to do.”

This further integrates WhatsApp into other Meta services - an originally independent app, which initially was available for just $1 per year without ads or data usage. A headline from BBC: "How Sweden survives without small talk". This will never stop amazing me how people who grew up in a culture where small talk is expected think it's somehow *biologically* natural, and you need to try hard to "survive" without it. I, for one, still can't get used to random people asking how my life is going. A nod should be enough to acknowledge a person.
