@jwz It's super cool that we've taken the sometimes inconvenient minor fragmentation caused by there being a small handful of different looking X11 toolkits and resized that problem up to cover literally every aspect of having a graphical environment.

If your auto-merged Dependabot PRs don't build after merging into `main`, this is why.

Also, you need to add your token into the "Dependabot Secrets" section as a secret, even though it is executing what seems to be a GH action.

What's the proper way to determine that you are speaking to XWayland rather than Xorg? Is it really "pick one of half a dozen possible environment variables and pray"?

It is software malpractice that the XWayland X server doesn't identify itself via Vendor String, or the presence of extension or something.

And btw here's @creativecommons supporters page, which thanks (among others) Microsoft, Google, the Chan Zuckerberg Foundation. Amazon Web Services, and Mozilla (which has pivoted to become an AI company these days).

Huh.

Not to be cynical or anything, but I wonder if that has anything to do with the reason they don't think content creators should be able to say "no" to #AI?

Dear @creativecommons ,

I read your article about your initiative for new licenses for dataset holders in the AI industry.

Let’s be clear: I do not want to re-license my hundreds of CC-By comic pages to please AI giants.

I wish you would support CC artists suffering from massive plagiarism. You should enforce your own existing licenses against AI mass crawling. It seems you’ve joined the battle only after the casualties and still managed to side with the wrong people.

It'll be fine, right?

while this is just a side project, i wanna give it the full celebration! riverton entered 1.0 today! 🎉

riverton is a nostalgic browser game where you adopt #virtualpets and own your own ranch! there’s life simulation elements, but it is meant to be a casual browser game you can play entirely alone or with others :) there’s all custom art from independent artists that is SO cute!

this project was made to teach myself php and game logic javascript. i made the game i always wanted as a kid, and it’s pretty fun! i have so much more i want to do with the site, but i’m just glad to move into this next phase without so many crunch deadlines. :)

you can create your account and start playing now!

Great if you're into being nudged toward specific brands. Maker-centric curation? Nah. Just vibes and a bit of vendor lock-in.

Sharing gcode isn’t "community". It's vending machine thinking.

Instead of pushing slicer-specific profiles for one printer, how about we just share... print settings? Layer height, infill, support, ... - crazy idea, right?

But yeah, go ahead and keep uploading 20MB Benchy profiles. Very helpful.

Some changes I made, with the goal of continuing to feed slop to AI bots as much as practical:

• Ban IP for 30 days if hitting the honeypot more than 20x/hour.
• But if the load is high, ban on the first hit.
• Rewrote a couple of scripts from Perl to PHP so they can run inside of php-fpm.

I don't want to poison "AI” crawlers with huge quantities of random text. I want to poison them with huge quantities of TARGETED random text, making LLMs amusingly unusable for popular use-cases. Imagine the business reports we could make them write:

“Q3 reports from Asia showed positive growth rates in consumer sales and huge hairy cocks, with key indicators including customer retention, brand recognition and turgid purple schlongs all meeting OKR targets.”

@lproven @davidgerard It is funny how whenever one points out problems in Wayland, you get flooded with answers, most of them in the two categories:

  • Works for me, and has always worked
  • You're holding it wrong

I haven't experienced GNOME fans being as vocal.

My biggest concern now is that if I dare to point out issues with Wayland (which I struggle with every day, since I had to switch for technical reasons) is that I'll be dismissed as being one of those arseholes behind this fork.

They have single-handedly made the entire debate around this stuff so much worse by doing this.
