Today in "A Stopped Clock Tells the Correct Time Twice a Day" news, there is something that Josh "The Cowering Fascist" Hawley is doing that I would approve of, pending reading the actual bill:

The amount of bullsh*t in a recent WSJ OpEd by propagandist Sad Dhume is breathtaking. Here, I rebuke this dangerous fascism:

Been thinking a lot about bravado and how it is used to accumulate power by either embracing or deflecting it. Your approach depends on your class and race.

Entering the corporate world in my twenties as a Puerto Rican kid from Orlando, I had to learn hard lessons and recalibrate.

In white liberal society bravado expressed outwardly is frowned upon because it is not a necessary tool for survival. In my world, if used correctly, bravado can help lift you out of poverty quite literally.

Adobe is now processing all your PDFs in the cloud, by default. The setting to “Enable generative AI features in Acrobat” was on, and I didn’t know it until I opened a document and Adobe asked me if I wanted a document summary. It’s annoying to have to click “No,” so I opened settings to disable the prompt.

THE PROBLEM
I sign Non-Disclosure Agreements for many of my clients. Adobe is a potential leak of protected information. I don’t know what Adobe does with this information. I don’t know what they store, or for how long. I don’t know what country (or countries) the data is stored in. I don’t know what LLMs are trained with this data. And I don’t need to know. What I need to know is that they won’t use default opt-in as a legal excuse to wiretap my information.

I recommend that you check your Adobe settings on all devices, for all Adobe accounts.

Every day I am astounded by how loud this ThinkPad’s fan is. Yes, it’s a bigger screen than the MacBook Air’s and it has a separate GPU, but nothing running now *needs* a GPU—and the screen is lower resolution (and worse all around, as is the build quality in general).

By now it should be obvious that any time you invest in some new React ecosystem doodad or geegaw is wasted compared with learning web platform fundamentals.

The scale of waste I'm observing in high-profile apps suggests that knowing browsers is the most leveraged skill today.

Never seen it before. Found in a local shop, of all places, hiding inside a vinyl carry case.

We obtained a mysterious box of 1960s electronics. I reverse-engineered it and with much effort, we got it running. It turns out to be a test unit for testing NASA's Up-Data Link, a system from the Apollo moon landing to control the spacecraft from the ground. Let's take a look inside... 1/n

A gray box of electronics. It has thirteen large orange digits displayed at the top, with lights and switches underneath. These have labels such as Message, UDL Compare, AGC Confirm, and Program Start. A paper tape reader sticks out of the front, with a paper tape threaded through it. The unit is rack-mountable with two handles on the front.
