This morning I knew this chrysalis was about to be ready. Went for an hour for a walk, came back, and there is a new Monarch 🦋 😍. Still has to let the wings dry and unfold.
Always in wonder how this large butterfly fits into the small bag.

A dark grey bag containing the developing butterfly, hanging under the edge of a clay pot. The black and orange pattern of the wings is already visible, a sign that the bag will open soon.
The butterfly has emerged and is clinging to the now translucent empty bag. The butterfly is orange with black veins and white dots along the edges of the wings.

One last thought- using the term "immigrant" is causing a greater divide in #Latino communities and people have the very false assumption that they're safe so long as they're legal. I honestly believe that the term immigrant is not at all benign, and is causing harm.

I don't think there's a great answer for this. I've used #LatinX, #Latine, and #Latin. But I am reverting back to #Latino as that is the overwhelmingly recognized name by the people in those cages—male, female, and non-binary persons.

I think you should also just pick one and stick with it. I won't tell you what to use. Ultimately, getting dragged on the internet every once in a while for using the "wrong" term is a small price to pay imo.

At any rate, we're in a stalemate. We are using euphemisms for the human beings being systematically hunted and thrown in cages. We should be having a serious discussion about the future for #Latinos and what we can do to stop this from manifesting into our worst fears. We can't do that if we're not even willing to call us by our name.

We don't actually know for sure where the term #LatinX came from. Do a search and you will find multiple competing claims.

I support inclusive language. I've always felt, however, that the term LatinX was clumsy and did not respect the language, especially since Latine is right there.

I have a theory for why we tend to use the word "#immigrant" when we really mean #Latino. It's because no one knows what to call us anymore. Whether we use #Latino or #LatinX, we're going to piss a lot of people off.

The term LatinX gained popularity as a way to be inclusive in our language. It gained credibility because we spread the claim that LatinX was coined by LatinX people, specifically LatinX college students.

The problem is, there is no evidence for this claim.

Just like we wouldn't say Hitler targeted immigrants when we mean Jewish people, we should not use the word immigrant when we mean #Latinos, in relation to #ICE and the US government.

Doing so lends credibility to the narrative that this is an immigration issue. When in fact, it's a targeting of an identity, not a status.

But that's exactly what we're doing in our discourse and news coverage.

I call this "the nondescript oppressed identity problem."

It's one thing for web developers to fall for it, but seeing participants in these venues fail to grok the damage is 🤦

"Dogs be humpin" mural by Sapien on 19th and Mission in San Francisco. #SFGraffiti #Graffiti #murals #Sapien

A mural depicting a mushroom cloud from a recent explosion. It looks like a nuclear bomb maybe, with dark clouds but orange and yellow light emanating from the explosion like a tiny sun. In the left-hand corner, two dogs are fucking. They are unbothered by the nearby explosion and danger.
A closer view of two dogs humping in the lower left-hand corner of the previous mural. One dog is white, the other black. Neither seems bothered by the nearby nuclear explosion, even as the light from it is bright enough to cast a heavy shadow on the ground of the two dogs fucking.

4. Bodily Autonomy

We could get into the weeds of the boundaries of these, but I'm not interested in that at the moment. I feel like the center is being lost.
