Did you not read the story? Oregon tried to create a wildfire hazard map and a bunch of conspiracy theory losers got mad such a fuss that the State had to back down. This means the State wasn't as prepared as they should have been and wildfires likely caused more damage.
Those that spread these conspiracy theories shouldn't get paid by insurance companies, because their negligence cost others money.

I'm going to try to do some kind of organized reading of Ursula Franklin's The Real World of Technology (her 5 Massey lectures are also on the CBC website, so listening is also an option.
But I don't just want to read it alone, I really want to discuss it, and I'm working on organizing it around a chapter/lecture every 3 weeks between end of Aug and mid Nov. Maybe doing some of it here, but something other than Masto toots will be needed.
LMK if you'd be interested

When I came to Penn State in fall 2017, one quickly picked up that we were proud of being a "land grant" school and that this implied (and even required) a public service mission.
In 2020, High Country News released their land grant data and I was appalled to realize what it actually meant.
With votes to close 7 of our campuses, I've seen callbacks to this "land grant" language but it leaves my mouth and stomach bitter so I thought I'd write about what it really means

@jsonstein he missed the "why." It was not merely a campaign of fake outrage about "Woke Culture Run Amok"™. It reinforced the core eugenical element of "outrage in defense of White womanhood."
Ignoring that pattern is journalistic malpractice, but, then, ignoring racism is the Times' brand.
