#CapeBreton action today for #Palestine via Free Palestine Cape Breton:
"Hello friends,
We are sending out an urgent call to action today to make a phone call to your MP’s office. The main demand we are seeking to make is for a two-way arms embargo with Israel, but in your calls, you can include other concerns (of which there are many).
If you have a few minutes between 9:30am-3:30pm today, please take the time to give MP Kelloway’s (or MP Battiste’s) office a call. Below is a script you can use if you like.
Hello, my name is (NAME). As your constituent, I am calling you today to express my deep concern for the welfare of the people of Palestine. I am a member of Freedom for Palestine Cape Breton/Unama’ki, a dedicated group of people working towards the end of the genocide in Gaza and the liberation of the Palestinian people.
Today, as over two million people are being deliberately starved and relentlessly bombarded in Gaza, I am calling on you to end Canada’s direct complicity in one of the most extreme moral crises of our time.
I, as your constituent, call on you to do everything within your power to compel the Canadian government to impose a full and immediate two-way arms embargo on Israel, including:
Immediately and publicly express your support for Canada to sanction Israel with a two-way arms embargo. Issue both a public statement as a Member of Parliament and sign onto the call for a full and immediate arms embargo on Israel at armsembargonow.ca.
Write a letter to Minister of Foreign Affairs Anita Anand, Minister of National Defence David McGuinty, Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu, and Minister of Government Transformation, Public Works and Procurement Joël Lightbound, and post it publicly, urging them to do the following:
Use Canada’s unilateral sanction legislation to urgently impose a comprehensive two-way arms embargo on Israel.
Cancel all permits for transfers of arms, parts, and components to Israel and end all direct shipments immediately.
End indirect transfers of arms to Israel through the United States by banning Canadian arms from being sent as military aid to Israel or being sold by the US to Israel. Require end-use assurances for all arms transferred to the US to not end up in Israel.
Cancel all contracts and planned purchases of military goods from Israel.
Update Canada’s procurement code of conduct to include measures that prevent the purchase of arms from companies involved in Israel’s illegal occupation, apartheid system, and genocide in Gaza and the West Bank.
Canada’s reputation as an international advocate against injustice has been indelibly tarnished. But there is still time to act and stand on the side of justice for Palestinians - this starts with sanctions on Israel for the crimes against humanity it has and continues to commit. I would like to request a formal response to my concerns, my contact information is as follows:
NOTE: If you do call, please reply to this email to say that you did, and which MP you called - we are tracking letters delivered and calls made so we can see how many people have contacted them and determine our collective impact.
MP Contact Information:
MP Mike Kelloway
902-539-0525
mike.kelloway@parl.gc.ca
MP Jaime Battiste
902-567-6275
jaime.battiste@parl.gc.ca
We have a number of people who will be hand-delivering letters to MP Kelloway’s office today, Tuesday August 12, and also have a meeting scheduled with him to demand an arms embargo. We are filming some of the deliveries and hope to put together a video afterwards to encourage others to do the same, and to exert public pressure on MP Kelloway to take immediate action.
If you have any questions, you can reply to this email and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank you for adding your voice to many demanding action of our elected representatives!
