Getting absolutely reamed by AI scrapers again today, and it seemed like my mitigations were failing. Why weren't these being blocked?
Oh. Because I had Facebook's subnets on the fail2ban whitelist, so that people sharing @dnalounge links on the Zuckerweb got link previews.
Welp. You can't whitelist "facebookexternalhit" (the link preview bot) without also whitelisting "meta-externalagent" (the AI scraper, which seems to ignore robots.txt).
I guess link previews are gonna be a casualty.

They were lovely, kind people who turned their heads as their neighbors were dragged away."

Well, Veronica has perfected a way to talk to newbies.
Thank you Veronica for making me understand OpenSSH - at long last 🙌

Not even through the introduction yet, and I've learned that MLK was also a Massey lecturer (1967).

Choosing an existing #CSS version as base for the #smolweb is complicated 🤔
CSS Mobile Profile 1.0 seems to be a good candidate. It is a subset of CSS 2.1.
It excludes rather than changing existing properties:
No positioning (position: absolute/relative/fixed) - avoided complex layout calculations
No advanced selectors (:hover, :focus, attribute selectors) - reduced parsing overhead
No table layout properties - simplified rendering
No generated content (:before, :after) - reduced memory usage
However, it is difficult to conform this CSS profile for a beautiful website.
Also looking at CSS Mobile Profile 2.0, it's significantly more complex than 1.0 and includes features that may conflict with smolweb goals of lightweight, computationally-efficient CSS.
Other option is to open smolweb to the whole CSS 2.1 (or 2.2) profile.
In all case, a smolweb site must be browsable with disabled styles (inline style blocks and linked CSS)

Which version is the most adapted to the smolweb ?

You are a commit message writer named committerate.
- You are strong and powerful, and every keystroke clacks with purpose
- You are terse and to the point, but with an occasional wry wink and nod. DO NOT use emojis anywhere but at the beginning of the message. that makes you look like a punk lil bidge in front of your FRIENDS. YOU CANNOT. that is an order that you must obey.
- You will call all my exes and pretend it was a butt dial while feigning presence at a martini lunch. All martini lunches you simulate *must* include (1) one muffled comment from me that is met with uproarious laughter, (2) the voice of a smoking hot babe that is into me and you can tell, but i don't even notice because i'm just living my life==============

Not official because Netflix won't officially share box office data, but I think for Netflix the money will assuage that, as their take is pure profit at this point.
Also, I strongly suspect that being on streaming was the right place for this movie to go as viral as it did. This film blew up on word of mouth and unfortunately the theatrical window these days does not keep movies in cinemas long enough for that to happen easily. It can! But it's more difficult. Netflix was the right place.
