So it looks like Americans are now getting acquainted with another aspect of living in authoritarian countries: constant rumors of the untimely demise of the dear leader.
About 10 years ago, whenever Putin wasn't seen on TV for little more than a week, it immediately produced speculations of him having died. Those hopes were then crashed by him appearing a few days later radiating health and very knowingly grinning. After a few times it became obvious this was done on purpose.

Users are flooding the front page with "The gif" as it is known on Imgur. A pornographic Marvell gif which has previously been a guarantee of an instant ban and instant removal of the post. Many copies of the gif have been showing on the front page all day without being removed.
Sorry these posts are out of order. I was unable to post for a couple of days and am filling in the blanks.

I wonder if the four years between the first and second Trump administrations will be remembered as our Prague Spring, a brief respite from authoritarianism before the hammer fell again.

What caught my eye here was the line of people at the door. Something about the way they were dressed felt timeless, like the photo could have been made at any point in the last 50 or 60 years.
I'm not particularly a street photographer, but this scene seemed worth a try. Fortunately, everything moved slowly enough to allow me time to set up my clunky tripod and gear.

Captured with a Pentax 645Z (a medium format DSLR) and a 75mm lens. I had no shifting lens for the 645Z, so I shot a bit wide and cropped to maintain the geometry.
The main challenge was the red neon, which was so bright it washed out the red channel and would have required overly darkening the interior in order to expose properly. This was a rare case where contrast filtration couldn't be done in post. So I used a blue optical filter to darken the red, allowing reasonable exposure and tone.
