I made a script that tracks Latvian websites that have the "load cookies first then ask for permission" problem: https://sīkdatnes.lv

For problematic sites, I send an informal email explaining the problem and asking to fix it. In case of no action, I send a formal, signed complaint. And then in case of no action, I report them to our country's DPA.

In quite a few cases the informal email is enough, and the issue gets acknowledged and fixed.

As a status update: quite a few people recommended Mint (Ubuntu sans snaps), which is pretty tempting. Pop_OS! was another recommendation in the same vein. Fedora was also confirmed as a good choice for artists.

Contemplating which Linux to install on my teenage kid's laptop. Ubuntu is out, as I don't want to touch snaps ever again (been using Ubuntu myself for the past 20 years, thank you). So I'm thinking @debian, @fedora or @elementary.

She's an artist (so Krita, Shotcut, Inkscape), and she'll probably get used to any DE pretty quickly. What I do care about is drawing tablet support and color management. Is Wayland ready for this yet? Any artists care to share their setups?

Officially the "Ed Koch Queensborough Bridge" but more generally simply the "59th Street Bridge", the view from Sutton Place at 58th Street on the Manhattan side is probably as flattering and uncluttered a perspective as you'll find for this piece of NYC infrastructure.

Immortalized in song by Simon and Garfunkel, in literature by Fitzgerald, and in cinema by Woody Allen, something about this bridge exemplifies the glamor and bustle of 20th century New York in a way that still holds up.

This was captured with the Phase One IQ3-100 back, Phase One XF DSLR camera, and the Schneider 80mm/2.8 "Blue Ring" lens. I had planned to use a technical camera and the Rodenstock 70mm, providing movements, but a cable was missing from the kit I had with me in the city that night. Fortunately, the 80mm SLR lens was just wide enough to not require movements, though the Schneider lens renders highlights (as prominent starbursts) a bit idiosyncratically for my taste.

Then I asked them the same questions. She wouldn't answer because it was private information.

So, I declined my appointment opting to go later when things had calmed down.

A product with 15M users gets 100 complaints and only 1 nice "good job" message per month.

It's really demoralizing that we accepted the fact that "if you don't hear from them it means things are good".

The Rogeti tripod bag is another well-designed gem that makes it unusually usable for my setup. It has two lateral straps that let you slide the bag over the back of the roller case's retractable handle. It stays put as you wheel the hard case around. I haven't found any other tripod cases that inter-operate with a roller bag as well as this. Straps let you also use it as a shoulder bag or carry it backpack-style

Anyway, I was surprised at how much easier this combination made things.
