I've long puzzled by christian churches in the US that appear to not follow the basic tenets of christianity. One thing Wong mentions is that social status moved away from established churches, which freed people up to find or found churches that better align with how they feel. If true, many modern churches in the US are an example of "market demand". We want to go to churches that confirm our basest desires and beliefs.

This might actually be worldpol since it seems there are global efforts to undermine empathy, but there has long been a sickness in the US that is currently ascendant that I struggle to understand.

It does not manage state (if it did, you wouldn't have Redux, etc.).
It does not prevent side effects (exercise to the reader).
