Look, you might think frontend is fine and going well, but today I found a 1.1MB PNG (that could have been a 40K AVIF) in the critical path of an important app.

Embedded in an SVG as a `data:` URL.

Shipped as a React component.

Brb, going to lie down and cry forever.

After a bit of flailing around, I've got a Dart/Flutter toolchain working quasi-gracefully with Emacs. It's a long way from here to seeing if I can reproduce what I did so far in SwiftUI, but it seems like a worthwhile experiment.

This, happening within months of the AI bubble bursting and taking down the US stock market, is going to make 2025 the pivotal year of the decade. (Forget Trump, he's a side-show.)

I'm not sure the reaction to Benioff is appropriate yet. The guy has called for a hostile invasion of our city, he wants to see San Franciscans dead in the streets.

In a functioning society, any property he owns should be seized by the city and he should never be allowed within city limits again.

@ChrisWere @uoou and myself finally got together to ramble our way into a finale of this iteration of our show. As always it is mostly us talking nonsense but, hopefully, entertainingly.

A scene from a sitcom Seinfeld featuring two characters, Jerry, wearing a pink shirt and Elaine wearing a dark blazer. Jerry is speaking with a smirk, while the Elaine looks down. Text on the image reads, "Columbus. Euro Trash"

While Linux font rendering is mostly decent, I’m gathering it still happens on a “per whatever this app was compiled against” basis. Emacs’s font rendering on KDE is absolutely *awful* compared to both macOS and Windows, which is ironic given how free-software-or-die Emacs is attitudinally.

This also goes towards people who might need to cross the US border – for example to attend conferences or business meetings, as is common in my line of work; and as is the case for this friend I was mentioning – even if they think they might not be at risk in the parts of the US they are visiting.

Obviously only do this if it's safe for you! In fascistic regimes, or countries moving towards fascism, "antifa" is obviously politically charged, and it might get you discriminated against, or even facing state violence. And your personal safety is more important.

I don't own a Framework, although I had been thinking of getting one before all of this came out to the surface. But over the weekend I was hanging out with a friend who does own one, and thinking that if the logo is becoming a fascistic icon, anyone who disagrees should explicitly counteract it.

I was thinking, maybe if you own a #Framework laptop, and you disagree with the whole Nazi bar "big tent", maybe it'd be good to put an antifa sticker on top of the logo.

After all, the opposite of fascism isn't neutrality, and neither it is centrism.
