Trying to understand if I was overreacting.

I got a little bit triggered by this since I had the opportunity to meet the inventor of the MP3.

Now people “write” historical pieces about how the MP3 got invented and attach deepfake images of “people” who supposedly worked on the project. Totally fake and not related to the actual team. The original team gets discredited.

It’s a perfect example of how AI will start to replace fact with fiction and people don’t question it

It's been coming since they went source-available years ago.

Wikimedia switched to Browsertime by @sitespeedio (easy choice with Peter on our team). I hope they'll add a nice UI like old WPT, combined with one-click self hosting or a sponsor for a public service. For now we use the API with a Grafana dashboard that displays videos and screenshots directly.

Or use the old UI WPT here:

Billionaire Tim Mellon sent $130M of his $14.1B to fund US military salaries during the Govt shutdown

1. This covers 1/3 of military payroll for 1 day

2. DOD has a $1T budget. $130M is .013% of that

3. Mellon can casually part with $130M—he can be taxed at a 91% marginal tax like during 1940-1980

American political cartoon titled “Remembering Reagan”. There are nine equal-sized panels, each depicting a different American cheerfully remembering something about Reagan: 1. He tripled the national debt, but he had such but he had such CHARISMA! 2. He supported apartheid, but he was ALWAYS personable! 3. He backed Saddam, but he made us feel GOOD about ourselves! 4. He crushed worker rights, but he was someone you could sit down and have a beer with. 5. Star Wars turned out to be an expensive fantasy, but he had that INFECTIOUS OPTIMISM! 6. He backed death squads throughout Central America, but he always looked for the best in everyone. 7. He looked the other way when Salvadoran allies raped American nuns, but he had that SELF-DEPRECATING HUMOR! 8. He confused old movies with foreign policy, but he was always QUICK WITH A JOKE! 9. He traded arms for hostages and diverted money to drug-running death squads, but he never lost his SUNNY DISPOSITION!
