Open source licences are not enough. They’re regularly weaponized as a tech enthusiast trap.

Reply with your favorite still opened gcc bug report (https://gcc.gnu.org/bugzilla/) . I am going to put together a poll next week on which bug report i should fix and that poll will be based on the responses here.
Disclaimer, X86_64 and aarch64 target specific bugs are OK, other backends depending on the bug report might be fine but I will reply to your toot if it will be included in the poll. If I get a lot of responses, I might have a few polls to narrow down which one I implement.

This is for 2 reasons, one to show gcc developers still care about the bug reports (especially with over 18k of them filed) and 2 to give an opportunity to users to see more of the process. Also sometimes I like giving back to the users of gcc.

Windows 11 preview build screenshot of the Wi-Fi control center. There is a speedometer button labeled "Test internet speed" next to the refresh available networks button, which supposedly by its name would bring the user over to an actual network speed test page.
The actual result after clicking the button is Windows opening a Bing search result page for "internet speed test". The results it produces are bogus, and were clearly generated by a language learning/artificial "intelligence" model.

We keep seeing startups who want to replace something valuable (therapy, counseling, tutoring, artistic expression) with some tech bullshit under the banner of democratization. But why do we need to invest so much in bad tech that doesn't work instead of just giving people access to what they need?

This is a sign for how fucking atrophied our mental muscles are. How limited our space for thinking about how things should be.

You want to democratize "going to therapy"? Make it "free" as in paid by socialized healthcare. You want to democratize "making art"? Give people money and free time to express themselves.

None of these things are meaningfully addressed through tech. It's always about the political struggle to give people what they need and deserve.
