My dad could not afford to go to college even though he’s one of the smartest people I’ve ever met, but he found a very technical career (making dentures) and he did that his entire career. My mom was a maternity nurse who could bathe many babies at once. I got to do everything that I do on the backs of spices, seams, fake teeth and baby baths.
