The Fediverse feels more vibrant when conversations are buzzing! Mastodon 4.5 fetches replies from other servers to show you more complete conversation threads - another much-anticipated feature.
Mastodon 4.5 brings Quote Post authoring features to everyone. Note that you can manage whether or how your posts are quoted by others, both globally on the new Posting Defaults page, and individually on specific posts. You can also revoke the use of a post. We wrote about this in more detail a few weeks ago: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/09/introducing-quote-posts/
We’re excited to release Mastodon 4.5 into the world! Arriving just a few months after the last release, this version brings the long-awaited Quote Posts feature, along with many other goodies. Here’s a quick look (you should read our blog post for more!)

what percent of "FAQs" are actually *frequently* asked questions?
I feel like 90% of the FAQs I style are literally never asked before totally made up content for a new website.
The other 10% are lorem ipsum.

‘Even in the seven-to-eight-seat scenario, Democrats might need to win the popular vote by five percentage points to merely have a 50-50 shot to win the House.
In recent decades, five-point victories in the House popular vote have generally happened during “wave” elections, like in 1994, 2006, 2010 and 2018, when one party ends up winning a large majority. And only once in the past 30 years has it happened during a presidential election year: Barack Obama’s win in 2008.’

"… it would not be surprising to see Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina, Louisiana and Tennessee attempt to eliminate every Democratic district. Additionally, without Section 2, North Carolina’s current plan to dismantle its First District would pass legal muster. And Florida Republicans might be tempted to target the state’s Ninth District in its coming redistricting push.
After those seven or eight seats, things get a little fuzzier."

an important distinction for future races:

I find myself thinking about the difference between non-profit projects and community-owned projects, in relation to LLM adoption which doesn't show apparent sympathy for community and volunteers.
Wikipedia and Mozilla seem hell-bent on shoehorning LLMs into their systems, in the latter case blowing away community labour. There's no sense in it beyond groupthink.
Are tech non-profits separate from industry, or a section of it that doesn't make money?

So, I wanted to verify something about how Bluesky handles adult content. So as seemed reasonable for doing a test, I logged in my test account. I immediately found my test account was banned from seeing nudity.
On investigation, I found my test account is permanently flagged as *mandatorily* region-locked for: Brazil; Russia; Turkey; India; and Germany. I cannot turn the moderation for any of those five countries off. Not even using Blacksky, not even with a self-hosted PDS.

Zohran Mamdani won young men 18-29 by 40 points.
40 POINTS!
And he did so by standing FOR economic justice, FOR Trans rights, FOR immigrant rights, FOR labor rights, FOR Palestinian rights, & FOR diversity.
All the Corporate Democrats who said Dems can only win by by "running to the center," or "siding with Israel on Gaza" or "not being distracted by the Trans issue," should shut up & have the humility to listen.
Zohran is what happens when you run FOR justice rather than just against Trump.

![Screenshot from https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Zohran_Mamdani&oldid=1320519259 (current as of November 4, 2025) Mamdani's campaign platform has been considered by outlets to be similar to the policies pursued by former New York mayor Fiorello La Guardia and former U.S. president Franklin Delano Roosevelt.[91][92] The German state broadcaster Deutsche Welle classifies Mamdani's policies as being on the center-left of the global political spectrum.[93] This is unusual in the United States, as the 1950s Second Red Scare and the 1990s Democratic Pivot towards centrist neoliberalism occurred, which shifted the overton window of American politics significantly to the right compared to almost any other liberal democracies, and led national politics to being generally restricted between centrists and the hard right.[93] While misinformation has spread during the 2025 New York mayoral race calling his policies radical or communist, there is a consensus among political scientists that his policies are similar to those pursued by mainstream center-left parties in other developed democracies.[93] Mamdani identifies as being within the democratic socialist tradition.[51][94] He is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.[60][71] Mamdani has also been called a progressive.[68]](https://files.mastodon.social/cache/media_attachments/files/115/495/395/383/913/218/original/f1be838a81b8c48d.png)
