A Moment of Autumn Sunshine The photograph uses a dramatic perspective, slightly from below and looking up at Captain Jack against a bright blue sky with scattered fluffy clouds. The autumn sunshine is intense, brilliantly illuminating Jack's face and fur from above and his eyes are slightly closed while seemingly enjoying the warmth. Sat on the outside of a window sill, he looks regal and inquisitive. The focus is sharp on his face and upper body, while the foreground red brick wall and the background wooden fence are softened, emphasizing the contrast between Captain Jack and his surroundings. In one corner of the image, a logo reads "MAISY & CAPTAIN JACK - by - PAUL JACKSON" providing context for the cat's name and crediting the photographer.

Watson and Crick used unpublished x-ray data from Rosalind Franklin and never gave her credit for it. They both were absolute noobs in x-ray structure analysis (I discovered this myself for some time, it IS hard).

Franklin was world-renowned for the quality of her x-rays. One of her coworkers who didn't like her stole the newest data and handed it over to Watson and Crick.

Using other scientists unpublished data without their consent is one of the worst things in science.

Later in his life, Watson said some incredibly stupid and racist things I won't repeat here. He did so several times. It was severe enough for Cold Spring Harbor National Laboratory to dismiss him from all duties and cut all ties with him.

Yeah because it's not just about the money. It's about the misery. Misery makes for obedient workers. Can't have people walking around with pocket change because the bus is free, and a clear head because their kids are well taken care of. Who's working an extra twenty hours a week in those conditions?

#Capitalism is built on capital but it thrives on misery.

i just saw a screenshot of some linux distro. i was like. what window manager is this? what UI theme? it looked kinda like one of those fancy "we're easy to use!" linux distros you see. yknow where they make it look kinda like Mac OS. but there's always some small, telltale signs: odd text alignment, unclear, monochrome icons, an overall lack of polish. you can tell it's not a *real* Mac because of those. anyway i looked a bit closer, and it actually was Mac OS. thats what a Mac looks like now

Shout out to Claire* and Eugen for doing the frontend on this, I got pulled away to work on other things and so they pushed it over da finish line and added a whole new AsyncRefresh feature on top.

#FetchAllReplies is for all the small instances out there! it makes a huge difference: not just seeing more stuff, but you can really feel how big of a deal it was to have been missing all the second-order convos that happen between people that weren't already mutuals once it started happening.

Moderation is the other big winner from reply fetching, as now harassment that would previously only be visible to the target and the poster can be spotted, reported, and removed by anyone passing by.

Glad its now default!
