People who run online social spaces often make the mistake of saying things like “everyone is welcome here”. I think a more fair and honest framing might be something like “everyone is welcome to step inside, but not everyone will be welcome to stay here.” Doesn’t sound as warm and friendly, but at least it’s real.
The measure of a community is what it will do to keep its members safe and protected from harm (or even asshattery). No one scores points for good intentions here. Results matter.

![Four panels are arranged in a horizontal row, depicting a simple, cartoon-style comic. Each panel features two mice, one addressing the other. The first panel shows one mouse looking at the other, with a small, cylindrical container labeled "BRAND" between them; the text reads “HAVE YOU SEEN OUR NEW CHRISTMAS AD?”. The second panel shows one mouse looking dejected, responding to the other; the text reads “I CAN’T AFFORD TO EAT THIS MONTH”. The third panel shows the same two mice, again with the container between them, and the text reads “WE MADE IT WITH AI”. The final panel shows the same two mice, with the container, and the same text “WE MADE IT WITH AI”. The mice are yellow with round ears and small, black eyes, and the background is a pale, off-white color. The comic is signed "IRREGULARGALAXydoods" and "[@]IG_DOODS" in the bottom left and right corners, respectively.](https://files.mastodon.social/cache/media_attachments/files/115/577/567/542/485/768/original/e271d13ab9880140.png)
