Me: “Oh no. My device? Are you sure?”

NOT-Microsoft support: “Oh yes, we have many reports.”

Me: “Oh jeez. How can I fix it?”>;
NOT-Microsoft support: “It’s OK sir. We can help you right now. Are you in front of your device sir?”

Me: “Yes. I was just about to use it. I’m glad you called.”

NOT-Microsoft support: “Yes sir, we are going to help you. Can you please push the Start button?”

Me: “I think it's already on.”

NOT-Microsoft support: “Okay, sir. Now you want to click on Control Panel.”

Me: “I don’t see that.”

NOT-Microsoft support: “Do you see a bunch of information above the Start button?”

Me: “Yes.”

NOT-Microsoft support: “That is your Control Panel.”

Me: “Wow, I didn’t realize it had a name.”

NOT-Microsoft support: “Yes sir, now press on Internet Options.”

Me: “Yeah, I definitely don’t see any Internet options. I don’t think I purchased that feature. This is just a cheap one.”

NOT-Microsoft support: “They all have the Internet sir. Press the Start button again.”

Me: “OK, it’s the same as before.”

NOT-Microsoft support: “That’s OK sir. We are going to restart your device. Can you please turn it off?”

Me: “Ummm…I don’t know how. I’ve never turned it off. Since I bought it, it just kind of stays on all the time.”

NOT-Microsoft support: “There must be an off button on your device. How do you stop it when it’s running?”

Me: “In those cases, I usually press the big button.”

NOT-Microsoft support: “OK sir. Please press that button.”

Me: “Ok.”

NOT-Microsoft support: “Is your device off?”

Me: “No. The door popped open.”

NOT-Microsoft support: “Door? Is there a disc inside the door?”

Me: “No, there’s a burrito.”

The Correct Incantation

#webcomic #krita #miniFantasyTheater

A comic in four panels: Panel 1. The gothic sorceress, dressed in dark, flowing robes, stands in the middle of a desolated land. She gazes at the colorful mechanical parrot flying near her shoulder: the Avian Intelligent Parrot. The sorceress asks with a hint of curiosity. > Gothic sorceress: "Hey, Avian Intelligence, what's the incantation for summoning a fireball?" > AI Parrot: ":sparkle emoji: The correct incantation for a fireball is "IgnisMe"." Panel 2. The gothic sorceress cracks a wicked smile, her eyes shining with anticipation as she raises her hands in front of her, fingers spread and ready to cast. > Gothic sorceress: "Alright, let's give it a shot... IgnisMe!" Panel 2(small insert in previous panel). Only the eyes of the gothic sorceress are visible in a large flame. > Gothic sorceress: "?!!" Panel 3. The gothic sorceress is burnt, her face contorted in a mix of shock, anger, and pain. Flames and smoke dance around her, her dark robes burnt and tattered, revealing exposed parts of her anatomy. > Gothic sorceress: "You #*$%@& bird! You gave me a self-immolation spell instead of a fireball spell!" Panel 4. As the sorceress facepalms, the Avian Intelligent parrot replies with stoicism. > AI Parrot: ":sparkle emoji: You're absolutely right! The correct incantation for a fireball is "PyroBolus"."

So back in 1944, a German U-Boat Commander named Heinz-Wilhelm Eck did exactly what US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth ordered US military forces to do - kill the survivors of a destroyed boat at sea.

Now, as then, this is considered a War Crime.

In 1945, Commander Eck was tried, found guilty with his own logs condemning him and executed by firing squad by the Allies.

USA, this is where you are now.

Doing literal war crimes every nation condemned the Nazis for.

Commanders specifically ordered Navy SEALs to fire on and kill two survivors of (alleged) drug boat sinking in September. "The order was to kill everybody".

Analyzing this as an unlawful order or as homicide or as a war crime is, of course, necessary, but at the same time it seems morally inadequate. It's a revolting, shameful stain on our country.

Screenshot of a tweet from Cory Archibald on X.com criticizing claims that young people are “hoarding” devices. The tweet says Boomers spent years telling young people to save money, and now blame them for not buying $1500 phones and for “costing the economy” by living at home. Below is a tweet from unusual_whales stating that $12 billion a year is being lost because younger people spend less on housing, transportation, and food due to living with family.

What quiet quitting and device hoarding have in common—besides being lies—is the worldview of people who believe in, worry about, and report on them.

The premise of quiet quitting and device hoarding alike is that you owe everything to your corporate masters. That giving less than everything to your job is "quitting," that spending less than every dime in your bank account is sabotaging the economy.

(Note that this is NOT a UK think tank but a US one so more likely to be ideologically in favour of Brexit as a starting point.)
