Systir mín, sem er höfundurinn á myndasögunni Kötturinn og ég, á afmæli í dag.

Í tilefni afmælisins þá rifjaði mamma upp eftirfarandi sögu sem gæti mögulega útskýrt teikniþrjáhyggjuna:

‚Mér hefur verið hugsað til atviks sem átti sér stað fyrir löngu þegar við foreldrar hennar vorum á göngu með börnin okkar við fjöruna í Morecambe á Englandi, skammt frá þar sem við bjuggum á þeim tíma...’

The Justice Department has finalized new regulations that effectively eliminate the use of “disparate impact” analysis—a key tool for proving racial discrimination based on statistical disparities—marking a significant rollback of civil rights protections. These regulations, issued without public comment, narrow the ability of government and private entities to be investigated or sued for policies that unintentionally cause racial disparities, focusing instead on intent-based discrimination. The move aligns with conservative arguments that discrimination should only be proven through explicit intent, rather than data showing unequal impact. Critics warn that this shift could weaken efforts to address systemic racial inequities, as it makes it significantly harder to challenge policies that unintentionally disadvantage marginalized groups. On body-worn camera video played in court, Wasser was heard saying she wanted to check the bag for bombs before removing it from the McDonald's. Despite that concern, she acknowledged in her testimony Monday that police never cleared the restaurant of customers or employees.

When I was a kid probably around 13 years old I kept getting junk mail from a company I once bought something from. Each unwanted mailer had a "Business Reply" return card. One day I securely taped one of the Business Reply cards to a 7 pound red brick and posted it. I never received another junk mailer from them again. I've never told this story to anyone.
