A lush forest scenery with waterfalls surrounding the center of attention. Seeming dissimilar characters are meeting each other for the first time? A friendly old stone lady covered with fancy moss, sitting comfortably, holding a stick in one arm and a tiny person in an orange raincoat in the other. Both look curious at each other. While intrigued by these two creatures and what they are talking about, we will leave them be and let them chat about their marvelous adventures. Maybe they will look up and greet us soon. This is such a peaceful place *sigh. https://www.deviantart.com/sylviaritter/art/Speedpainting-29012023-947165935

Whatever you two are talking about, I'll only listen from the mouth of a POC, and I'll only join a conversation on the topic if provided a link to the mentioned post, else l'il just consider it as "virtue baiting from self-designated allies" (and so far, the bait has worked, congrats).

Fun fact: almost nothing is objective. If you cannot provide sources and hard data to your "objective" claims, they are just your opinions. Even when you do, the points that you try to make with those claims are still your subjective opinions and views. Seek first to understand, then to be understood. If you don't, you become a tool of facism. --- A re: race, Fedi I can't express how gross it is to use the term "whitewash" and weaponize social justice langue in an attempt to minimize what is an extremely valid critique and objectionably correct observation that the Fediverse is overwhelmingly white.

@fromjason The responses you've gotten to these posts are wild, and terrible, and also utterly unsurprising. I legitimately don't understand what the resistance is to someone saying this place has a racism problem, unless you feel like you're part of that problem and don't like being called out. Loving Mastodon and acknowledging its many faults don't need to be mutually exclusive things.

It almost seems like these users don't want people of color to be here, the way they're reacting to the suggestion that there could be more work to do to make it welcoming for them. But of course I'm sure that's not the case since we're all good white people here.
