I don't know how many people there are like me, but I know how important browsers are to the modern compute/social participation, and I am absolutely willing to pay a little bit each month to contribute to the development of an alternative browser that is not controlled by big tech and is willing to turn away "AI" junk, especially if it was a cooperative venture.

Hi Folks, sorry to any users of my #PeerTube server but due to a broken upgrade this server is down for the forseeable future.
IRL has me totally burned out at the moment and I just don't have the time for messing around with things built on layers of black boxes that I don't understand.
If anyone wants to try to help then the most recent error is here:

Apologies again.

People like to tell me that React isn't the problem ("it's only 50KB"), and I agree: library choices in a vacuum don't say much, but a culture that walks past 5-10x over-spend on *client-side* dependencies, day in and day out? That culture is *failing*.

Excellente idée, à mon avis.

I am not sure if everyone who is outraged by the insane rise in RAM pricing understands that this is solely because a billionaire bought 40% of all memory chip production. Not because he needs it, just to oust the competition. And the entire IT sector, and all private PC owners, have been taken prisoners in the process.
@ianbetteridge I know this was a rhetorical question but the answer is: because their VC-brained executives long ago abandoned the nonprofit's mission of stewarding the open web, and instead pivoted to trying to make "products" that will be beloved by advertising companies. (And utterly failed at that anyway, just a truly spectacular faceplant.)

WordPress's "most OK" status is its strength
the real WordPress lock in is the stupendous numbers of plugins, themes and developers for both. "why don't you move to X" fails to answer "I use *this* fuckin plugin"
the control point is wordpress.org
ClassicPress has its *own* extension repo (with beer and hookers) but it would need full wordpress.org compat to be a substitute
the many many many alternate CMSes and static site generators almost never address "this fuckin plugin i actually use"
not to mention "I have ten years of posts and comments and known URLs here"
tech evangelists are delighted to dive into people's mentions with suggestions that don't address anything the system is being used for. this is about any software whatsoever. because tech evangelists in general are odious idiots.
i've had tech evangelist morons hear "wordpress" and claim "oh comments are a wrong thing to want" and wtf
