I am terrified of what is going on in #minneapolis and now #Maine . They are going after literal babies for the crime of not being a US Citizen. The next thing will be working to undo things like birthright citizenship or just going after ethnicity openly as a whole regardless if they are citizens. If they got their way with this my aunt would lose her citizenship, my cousins and my parents. But the main show was actually the complete lack of activity and spectacle around the normal center of life: the economy.

We'll never get an honest accounting of how that went down, but I know in addition to the indie stores that shut down, a LOT of folk working corporate gigs didn't go to work today.

I think this photo, showing one of the main stretches of highway into the city, during what should be rush hour, instead showing a smattering of cars, is one of the better demonstrations of that part of today.

Back when I did a *ton* of interviewing at Google, folks sometimes asked what they should do before going for interviews; my answer (for working programmers) was "take a couple of weeks, or a month of weekends, and just write complete programs, end to end, that do something."
