If the feature is something that people actually want, and is well-designed (e.g. easily discoverable in the existing user interface) then people will use it. Stop putting stuff between me and the thing I'm trying to get done!

I've been thinking recently about "be careful what you measure". Any metric you measure becomes a metric to be gamed for some outcome.
I think it's showing up in enshitification. You know how you open an app that you use every day and it's got to interrupt you and tell you how great its new features are?
That's because some team built that feature. And their metrics are being judged. So OF COURSE they're going to push for that intro to drive engagement, if it makes the team/project look good.

a reminder that OCCUPY WALL STREET brought protesting to a whole new generation in a variety of different ways: soup kitchens, little libraries, anarchist bands, pirate radio, people’s assemblies, FLOSS tech coops, mutual medical aid, etc etc.
OWS reminded us old farts & young hearts of what happens when the people come together because we more than believe, WE HAVE THE SCIENCE, THE KNOW-HOW THAT ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE.
live in that truth: ANOTHER WORLD IS POSSIBLE

Also, side note: we tend to use real-world language for digital migrations. It's just a failure in our language, imo. I'm comfortable with using "migration" but "refugee" feels icky. We need better words.

The TikTok-to-Rednote migration is fascinating. I can appreciate the sentiment—move to another Chinese-owned platform to stick it to the US government. However, longterm, I think it’s a bad move. What’s the alternative? Loops? Eh. A big migration can mean more power and influence to the platform owner. Anyway, it’s interesting. https://www.npr.org/2025/01/25/nx-s1-5260232/tiktoks-brief-ban-sent-users-to-rednote-another-chinese-owned-video-sharing-app
