Wrote a new blog post about the history of "There is No Antimemetics Division" and my experience reading the new 2025 edition.

https://ragman.net/musings/antimemetics/

In it I go over how the book was born in the shared community world-building space, The SCP Foundation, and how Penguin forced the author to remove any references to that community in the new release.

All that makes me sad -- but I am still enjoying the book :)

Read of the day by @pluralistic.

It's worth mentioning that this entire essay would've been considered alarmist and radical by liberals just 18 months ago.

It's also worth mentioning that Cory did not, because he could not, name the opposition leader for the people because we don't have one.

Change is possible. Change causes power vacuums. We are ill equipped for that day, currently.

Call 866-DHS-2-ICE. If you are an illegal alien, you can take control of your departure using DHS.gov/cbphome . text reads : according to the Berlin Jewish museum, the nazi term "aryanization" referred to "the process of expropriation or confiscating Jewish people's property [businesses, stores, homes, land, etc] and handing it over to non-jewish ("aryan," in Nazi usage) individuals or companies, or to the state." in his book "Holocaust justice," Shoah historian michael bazyler estimates that between $230 and $320 billions (in 2005 u.s. dollars) in properties were stolen from Jews across Europe in the different waves of aryanization. the first wave, starting in 1933, involved heavy pressure on Jewish people to sell their properties to non-jewish people at a fraction of the price. after the pogroms of November 1938 ("Kristallnacht"), jewish owners were outright evicted and dispossessed. thinking about this today for no particular reason.

What I listened to today: "Secuencia Techno con Syntakt y Microfreak", RM1_music

Super satisfying techno set on two desktop devices. Hard driving thumps, surreal whooshing. At some point I have to face the fact I never actually learned the names of EDM subgenres I just like, listen to everything, and that makes writing these descriptions hard some days. Someone who did the research could probably identify the 3 microgenres here. All I can say is it's highly raveworthy

This is funny because I have the kind of AuDHD where I'm very organised and prepared and methodical and I will pack exactly what I need and nothing more, and Alex is the kind of AuDHD who will pack seventeen pairs of underwear and the Switch and the Chromecast and a bag of tools (no, not that kind, actual hand tools), for one night in a hotel

So my toot about helmet laws increasing heart disease has got a few replies by people wondering wtf. The way it works is that mandatory helmet laws reduce cycling, fewer people cycling results in an increase in obesity related illnesses like heart disease and diabetes.

One of, if not rhe best, things that a government can do to improve health at a population level is increasing active travel (walking and cycling).

Comments due March 6.

I am having a very hard time believing this is really happening. Fuck you, SpaceX, and fuck you, FCC. This is not regulation, this is a fucking joke, that will destroy our ability to use satellites for centuries.
