This is not the language of a man who fears death. This is the language of a man who solved it in the 1400s and is tired of pretending. The one thing the longevity-vampire community has not yet learned from Dracula is...

If you're interested in funding or helping us find funding for a Discord replacement that's federated and end-to-end encrypted, we're interested in implementing that at @spritely ... we even had been talking about that being our big focus for 2026.
We have the skills and the underlying tech to pull this off. What we need right now is resources. Funding for open source nonprofits like ours really fell apart in 2025. If you think you know how to help, feel free to reach out.

I think it was @pluralistic who questioned whether these type of claims were a way for big tech to get people to buy into their schemes.
The "green" logistics are always just on the horizon. Don't worry about living wages, our drones will deliver our food soon!
Coke and Pepsi do it too: there's always a plant-based bottle that'll replace plastic. Since the 90s.

A community is not its platform.
Discord made it all too easy to fall into a terrible trap, linking community identity to Discord-specific features. Sure, the features are nice, but they’re ultimately Discord’s, and not the community’s. This is their business model.
Real communities, made of engaged people with common interests and values, can thrive in different spaces. They can survive a move. They’re bound by something stronger than Discord’s conveniences and cosmetics.

After getting a late-in-life ADHD diagnosis, you realize how important having the proper context to navigate the world is to your wellbeing.
On the day I got my diagnosis, it finally occurred to me that I should consistently park in the same row of my grocery store's parking lot so that I remember where I parked.
I stopped fighting the problem under the false idea that my awareness would improve. I think about that everytime I do groceries, which then makes me more aware when I park lmao.

This is a truly unfortunate matrix of power and influence. The average person fleeing from the corporate web will view the IndieWeb as a safe space, only to later find out it's, at best, controlled opposition.

The capital-I-IndieWeb, and capital S-Social Web are not anti-corporate, despite their marketing language that lures us in. But once you're inside, IndieWeb leaders will defend corporate social media, directly or indirect.
Some of them truly believe we cannot move forward without Meta. It's an affliction of the imagination. Some of them come from Big Tech companies, like leaders of IndieWebDotOrg, and some of them were paid off like the Social Web Foundation.

@fromjason Kev showed us who he was when Fosstodon had its bigotry moment and instead of addressing it, he just said “I quit” and walked away. Couldn’t bring himself to defend a queer person or even speak out against bigotry in general.
But yeah, he enjoyed that moment of negative focus at the time. All of these guys do. They’re always just one half-step away from the MAGA GoFundMe grifts that the far right do whenever someone calls them out for their shitty behavior.
And the thing is, people lap it up. The IndieWeb is full of these white cishet influencers who are lifted up as idols by other white cishet wannabe influencers. This is the toxic side of the space, and it’s propelled by a whole lot of “let’s just focus on blogging tools and not talk about *that kind* of politics”.
And now you know the one thing that’s on my own silly list of random things that I hate.
