Also, I totally get that using FOSS would be better in principle. But it's a matter of goal setting and making progress.
My goal (The Janky Web) is simple- to reduce the amount of collective time allotted to ad-tech platforms.
My method is simple, too—move people to apps they already have on their phones, and platforms that feel familiar.

@NfNitLoop yup! For now at least, my goal is to just move them. If you find a co FOSS thing let me know I'll check it out

The Janky Web is any off-label implementation of a social media space where ad-tech can't reach your group.
For example, my family has a shared photo album where we post, like, and comment on photos.
Me and a couple of friends have a shared photo album exclusively for memes.
The goal of the Janky Web is to reduce our collective attention in ad-tech spaces.

Also, I don't know how I feel about the comments like "oh I like AOC but she won't win because of misogyny"
Sometimes it feels like the call is coming from inside the house. Also, the type of misogyny AOC faces is specific to her ethnicity.
If we can't identify the correct bias, how could we ever look inside ourselves to unlearn and relearn?

We're so late in the game and so many of us still haven't identified the problem.
It's not that Democrats aren't fierce. Their affliction isn't a lack of will.
Democrats won't fight for Democratic Socialism, or any populist movement because they are red-blooded capitalists with a stock portfolio and corporate donors who dictate what they can and can't fight for.
So, we need politicians who share our morals and political ideals, fierce or not.
(AOC is the best of the worst so I'll take it.)

Getting someone to adopt anything new is so hard. I've been championing a shared photo album called "Family Photos" for a year now and the family is just now starting to use it.
My mom was texting everyone photos and videos of the family and I'm screaming USE THE SHARED PHOTO ALBUM FOR CHRIST'S SAKE

@fromjason I totally ignore all of those after the several dozenth of the "This bombshell revelation changes everything!!" video. Then you look and it was from six months ago and changed nothing. I have never really thought of them as part of the problem before, just ineffectual noise.
This seems like the same issue I have with the Democratic Party (tm). They present themselves as fighters while they put on the puppet show of a fight while scrupulously avoiding effecting any real change. When progressive politicians actually show an interest in substantial change, the party white blood cells treat it as an infection and attack it.

I haven't paid for any of it, ever.

#NoKings invokes “non-violence,” a civil rights term, as an HR policy against civil disobedience and direct action. But, that’s not how Dr. King defined the term.
During Jim Crow, the unlawful act of sitting in a “whites only” diner meant others would retaliate against you, often violently. Non-violence from the Civil Rights era is a discipline that showed us how to respond after scalding hot coffee was thrown in our faces.
