Another quote from the above blog post is heartbreakingly accurate:

Not helped by the fact that every dev I met in the wild last year was a hop away from being a goose-stepping Nazi, spouting phrases like “some kinds of people should die because they are a burden to society”

This is what I went through last year. I've thought of myself as a software developer who wrote as a part of his craft, but in December a bit flipped in my head and I started to see myself as a writer and photographer who happens to do dev work to pay the bills.

This is a near-universal truth of the tech industry. Most tech people are worryingly malleable by authority in my experience and the theory in the quoted post would explain a lot

Obviously this doesn’t confirm that Hank Green specifically was paid by Anthropic. But considering the pro-Anthroopic, AI culty videos he made recently, it’d be nice for him to confirm he wasn’t paid.

So, it turns out, Anthropic *is* paying YouTube influencers to shill for them. Funny, I don't remember ever seeing a disclosed Anthropic ad from any content creators.

Ohhh right right right, Clawdbot, the free, open source, local AI went viral. So we're pressing the gas on fear mongering.

Because the AI business model doesn't work if it can't be tethered to the cloud using expensive GPUs.

So we need laws against open source models so that Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Microsoft etc can control the technology.

Little known feature on Mastodon. Did you know you can change the audience of boosts so they don't appear on the federated timeline, or if you want, don't appear on your public profile to non-followers?

Turn on "Show confirmation dialogue before boosting" in Preferences > Appearance, then just click the little globe or padlock icon next to Boost to change the audience.

Edit: This is on the web interface, apps will obvs differ.

Confirmation dialogue for boosting a post, on a post of mine about marginalia. The original scope is unlisted but it gives a drop down menu to change who it's boosted to. Followers only is highlighted.
