Doctor: "You should really try to avoid stress"
Ah yes, of course. Right after I finish following my financial advisor's strategy of "just be rich".
Amazing how many complex life problems can be solved with absolutely no actionable steps.

@protonprivacy how can Proton claim to be held to Swiss-only law, when the Swiss government isn't even held to Swiss-only law?
The FBI can, apparently, compel Proton to hand over any data they demand about anyone regardless if a crime has been committed.

These two headlines are five days apart, today Hegseth is ducking questions about who is responsible for the bombing of a school and the deaths of 180 children and their teachers, and I'd like to wish everyone at Anthropic a very happy complicity in war crimes.

I'm very familiar with how cops and FBI have gone after Stop Cop City protesters. It's a level of fascism that most of the country has yet to experience.
@protonprivacy effectively handing over credit card data of someone who has not committed a crime, makes them no different than any American tech company.
If you're familiar with Stop Cop City, then you know Proton put someone's life at risk.

The story also reminds me of one more thing that, pardon my language, "privacy freaks" are ignoring en-masse.
NO ENTITY, not a single one, no matter what they claim, will go against law enforcement, when it knocks on their door, unless they have some super powerful legal leverage (at which point LEA won't go in there in the first place unless you're in a place with "Gestapo on crack" LEAs at which point nothing saves you from "chains and gallows") or they're "untouchable" (which would more likely be a red flag because how come they're untouchable).
But when LEA comes in with "Comply or Die", you only have these options, comply or die.

Afroman heads to court this month after deputies sued him for turning their unfounded raid on his home into viral music videos that exposed their faces and actions when he used his security camera footage of the raid.
The trial begins March 16 in Adams County, #Ohio, where the legal battle between the rapper and law enforcement has become a test case for free speech rights in the digital age.
Afroman’s argument is straightforward: he documented what happened to him and turned his story into art. #Law #FreeSpeech #Music

@fromjason I use a little script that creates a new YYYY-MM-DD.md file each day, and will append the current time to the file when I open it.
My editor (#Helix) can easily search/page through previous days, so I don't feel the need to keep everything in one file.
If I have a topic that I know I'll collect notes on over a long time span I'll just create a file for that topic.

idk, it’s just baffling to me that a professional software developer who’s been maintaining a project for over a decade can so fundamentally misunderstand what LLMs do

The proposed handling of LLM in Debian in the latest "Bits from the DPL" is a bit concerning. It misses the mark by acknowledging issues with LLM usage, and then dismisses them all by saying that "As a society, we rarely respond with categorical refusal. Instead, we regulate, reflect, and take responsibility for how we use them." and suggesting absolutely no regulation or reflection (and no particular responsibility other than that which comes with any contribution).
I'm not a Debian developer, just a longtime user (and upstream for an unimportant package). But if Debian isn't the principled, ethical one, then I'm guessing no one will be.

The most surreal thing about AI coding shit taking on is the revelation that so many people who do this thing that I love, seem to have no care for the craft at all. Even people who I would have pointed at, years ago, as those who clearly care. And I know it has always been Just A Job for many people, but holy shit, do you even care a little bit?
We humans are not merely bad at it, we have people who have been doing the work with no desire to be good at it in the first place.

This is the exact same pitch Facebook sold to its userbase when it began algorithmically changing what we saw on our newsfeeds.
There are a dozen or more ways to see more content from people important to you, least of all leaving it up to a black box algorithm that would need to collect data on who your friends and family are.
