It is not a referendum on joining the EU! Just on whether the negotiations should continue. The aim is to add democratic legitimacy to the process.

A red panda suiter with green eyes stands sideways on a sunny sidewalk, wearing a fluffy red and dark brown full-body costume with a large ringed tail curled forward. The suit has big white ears, a cream muzzle, and bright cartoon-like eyes. The character holds their paws together in a playful pose near small trees and parked cars, with warm sunlight highlighting the soft fur texture. The outdoor street setting gives the scene a casual, cheerful convention-style photo vibe.

Following up on my obsession with title sequences... As I've said before, I find the decisions about what stories they choose to tell, and under such constraints, fascinating. So every time a new season of a show starts, I pick them apart to see what subtle changes they made.

Monarch, Legacy of Monsters has a fantastic title sequence. Since the show takes place in two timelines, they split the titles between the past on the left and the...

@soatok while its always bad when this sort of thing happens, as I'm always reminded, every single company offering any sort of service in this world WILL either have to hand over whatever info they have (maybe very very little) to law enforcement OR shut down.

Those are the two options. If a sufficiently legal request comes in, they HAVE to comply or cease to exist.

Mullvad has a solid approach to this in that you only have an account number and simply add credit to that account AND accept crypto or cash (and apparently delete any card payment details after a short amount of time) but even that's not perfect.

@protonprivacy was extra sleazy by invoking the shooting at a cop incident to justify handing over the data, as if the person in question was a suspect (they weren't).

In fact, this story of a cop being shot at was used to justify cops murdering a protester Manuel Paez Terán who was found dead with multiple gun shot wounds in his back, implying he was attempting to fee when murdered.

Proton out here acting like a cop. This is cop behavior. I don't do business with cops. Fuck Proton.

We check all legal orders received from Swiss authorities and we understood that a law enforcement officer was shot and explosive devices were involved,

@protonprivacy how can Proton claim to be held to Swiss-only law, when the Swiss government isn't even held to Swiss-only law?

The FBI can, apparently, compel Proton to hand over any data they demand about anyone regardless if a crime has been committed.

The story also reminds me of one more thing that, pardon my language, "privacy freaks" are ignoring en-masse.
NO ENTITY, not a single one, no matter what they claim, will go against law enforcement, when it knocks on their door, unless they have some super powerful legal leverage (at which point LEA won't go in there in the first place unless you're in a place with "Gestapo on crack" LEAs at which point nothing saves you from "chains and gallows") or they're "untouchable" (which would more likely be a red flag because how come they're untouchable).
But when LEA comes in with "Comply or Die", you only have these options, comply or die.
