@treyhunner not linking this as a reply because I am not sure why I felt compelled to do this and it may be a bit confusing to your target audience, but; I prefer to treat things as expressions rather than early returns when I can, to wit::

def is_prime(candidate: int) -> bool:
factors = (n for n in range(2, candidate) if candidate % n == 0)
return next(factors, None) is None

I’m just saying it’s REALLY telling how *intensely* racist the US is when there are states *in the middle of an active primary* that are shutting it down so they can redistrict to prevent Black people from representation because SCOTUS said it’s OK to do a racism.

This is like racism speedruns.

“The venerable Notepad++ text editor began as a more capable version of the classic Windows Notepad. It was created in 2003 by Don Ho, who continues to be its primary author and maintainer, and it has been a Windows-exclusive app throughout its existence.

I’m not a devoted user of the app, but I was aware of its history, which is why I was surprised to see news of a ‘Notepad++ for Mac’ port making the rounds last week.

Apparently, this news surprised Ho as well, who claims that the Mac version and its author, Andrey Letov, are ‘using the Notepad++ trademark (the name) without permission.’”

It's not a great situation for people who relied on the airline or its employees, but also not a surprise.

The coreutils Rust rewrite story is pretty funny.

Coreutils are tools like rm, mv, mkdir, etc. Unlike binutils, this isn't a fertile ground for memory safety bugs. But, the rewrite was completed, and in the spirit of progress, Canonical decided to switch.

But do you know what coreutils are a fertile ground for? Race conditions around file creation, deletion, permission setting, and so on. The original code accounted for decades of hard-learned lessons in that space. The Rust rewrite did not:

PS. I'm not dunking on Rust. It's just that... starting over from scratch has its hidden costs.

First Second will publish the middle-grades graphic novel adaptation of my novella "Unauthorized Bread" on Apr 20, 2027. The adaptation - by JR Doyle and Blue Deliquanti - is *fantastic*.

You can read the original novella here:

The cover of First Second's forthcoming middle-grades graphic novel adaptation of "Unauthorized Bread"; it features a skull-shaped piece of toast and the strapline, "They called it piracy. She called it breakfast."
