A small white cat with gray markings and huge round eyes sits in an open pink plastic carrier inside a car. The cat looks up with a curious, hopeful expression. Its tabby tail is curled around its feet and its pink nose and long whiskers catch the light.
A hand in a yellow sleeve pulls open a blue plastic shopping bag on gravel. Inside, a tiny gray and white kitten looks up with wide eyes. The kitten's small paw rests on the bag as sunlight hits the dirt and rocks around it.

Carbon dioxide averaged nearly 431 ppm in April 2026 (new record high)...

10 years ago April averaged about 408 ppm. Preliminary data from https://gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends/mlo.html.

This is really concerning, and it isn’t going away. The longer we wait, the worse the impacts get and the harder they are to address.

Red line graph time series of monthly carbon dioxide abundance from January 1959 through April 2026. There is a seasonal cycle and long-term increasing trend. Current levels of CO2 are at 431 ppm. This is the Keeling Curve graph. A line for CO2 10 years ago is also annotated.

I've got better shit to waste bytes and breath on than scolding marginalized people for doing what they have to do in order to get their work in front of other people and make a living. That includes things like:

Publishing on Substack
Having Twitter accounts
Using Amazon to publish books
Having their podcasts on Spotify
Patreon

Whatever

Do what you gotta do to survive. Rent doesn't give a shit about moral purity in your tech stack.

one good thing about students using #AI to write code is that they are learning about the importance of writing tests. unfortunately, many are also using #AI to write the tests. the positive side of this is that they are learning the importance of writing good specifications. unfortunately, many are also using #AI to write their specifications.. at this point they should be learning the importance of understanding user requirements… but the #AI cant help them, as it understands nothing.

On Python, `loky.cpu_count()` will take cgroups settings, common in Docker and Kubernetes, into account when calculating number of available cores.

Are there any other Python APIs that support cgroups options? Standard library doesn't.

(On Rust you can use `num_cpus` crate, on R there's parallely::availableCores()).
