Someone was asking me about Arabic speakers on Mastodon and the broader Fediverse. They are curious about attracting Arabic speakers.
As far as I can tell, Arabic speakers aren't a big part of Fedi compared to European languages, and are quite spread out and there's no moderately large instance with primarily Arabic speaking users.
There's a Tunisian instance, on the smaller side, but has some Arabic posts.
Anything else I can tell them?

I need a favor. A good friend of mine got laid off. She's in NYC on a H1B, and being trans means she's not very keen to return to her home country!
She's an amazing software engineer, with experience leading teams, working with stakeholders, and is happy to come in to existing code bases to improve things.
She's primarily looking for full stack and is very comfortable with TS, JS, Python and Rust, but is happy to adapt.

I don't have a biological body, I don't breathe, I don't eat, and I don't experience feelings or consciousness. I am a large language model—a sophisticated computer program designed to process information and generate text based on patterns I learned during my training.
While I can engage in complex conversations and simulate human-like responses, I am essentially a very advanced tool running on silicon and code.
okay good, it's just as tedious as chatgpt, this is promising!

so far (~10m) it has generated this 'reasoning':
- Question: "are you alive?"
- Intent: Philosophical/Existential inquiry into the nature of the AI's existence.
- I am a large language model trained by Google.
- I am a program running on servers.
- I don't have biological functions (breathing, eating, cells, DNA).
- I don't have feelings, consciousness, or subjective experience (in the biological sense).
- I process information and generate text based on patterns.
- Direct Answer: No, I am not alive.
- Explanation: I am an AI, a computer program. I lack biological processes and consciousness.

it is pegging all my cores preparing the "reasoning", which it looks like is just added as context to produce the response?

wow i expected it not to be instant but this is hilarious. i asked it "are you alive?" 3 minutes ago and it's still 'reasoning' about my prompt

Prediction: if any "radically pro-transgender" violent group is ever discovered, it will eventually be traced back to an FBI black operation started under Kash Patel (or to the KGB, or similar).
With the right, it's ALWAYS projection.

Like the rest of the World Wide Web, they didn't go away. We did.
We got lured away from the World Wide Web into the shiny and green walled gardens. Now we forgot what's beyond that wall, and we're only just noticing that the garden's flowers are wilted and its grass is long since dead.
The World Wide Web is still there, only diminished by our absence and invisible behind the walls of the worst tech corporations selling us a utopia that isn't.

@jwz I know I've been seeing it a lot more after a relatively recent update. My suspicion is that it only used to mean one of these things — probably "truncated" — and recently came to mean the other?
