Announcing the BYOMesh!

We've been hard at work designing what I believe is now the worlds SMALLEST & most CAPABLE LoRa companion dev kit ever!

It combines the tried and true SX1276 allowing access to the full sub-1GHz ISM band all mesh enthusiast know and love, along with the SX1281 providing high speed 2.4GHz LoRa all on ONE tiny board.

Well this is exciting!

My little #ActivityBot server is through to the next round of the @nlnet grant application process.

Still a long way to go, but rather encouraging.

You can play with the code at https://gitlab.com/edent/activity-bot/

Screenshot of an email. Dear Terence, it is my pleasure to inform you that your project "ActivityBot" has been selected to enter the second round of the February 2026 call. While the first round is solely based on your proposal, this strict selection round is potentially interactive. As your project is looked into in more depth, the reviewers may need some additional information to properly assess your application, in which case they will contact you.

Trond Solberg posted the following: Hi, Norwegian here. A big misconception about social democracy is that everyone makes the same money, and that you can't get rich. But Norway has wealthy people, entrepreneurs, successful CEOs. The difference is that a janitor can afford healthcare. A teacher can afford a home. And the wealthy still live in a society that works. Social democracy doesn't put a ceiling on wealth. It raises the floor. Follow for more glimpses into life in a social democracy, where dignity is not a privilege.

Someone was asking me about Arabic speakers on Mastodon and the broader Fediverse. They are curious about attracting Arabic speakers.

As far as I can tell, Arabic speakers aren't a big part of Fedi compared to European languages, and are quite spread out and there's no moderately large instance with primarily Arabic speaking users.

There's a Tunisian instance, on the smaller side, but has some Arabic posts.

Anything else I can tell them?

I need a favor. A good friend of mine got laid off. She's in NYC on a H1B, and being trans means she's not very keen to return to her home country!

She's an amazing software engineer, with experience leading teams, working with stakeholders, and is happy to come in to existing code bases to improve things.

She's primarily looking for full stack and is very comfortable with TS, JS, Python and Rust, but is happy to adapt.

Prediction: if any "radically pro-transgender" violent group is ever discovered, it will eventually be traced back to an FBI black operation started under Kash Patel (or to the KGB, or similar).

With the right, it's ALWAYS projection.

We got lured away from the World Wide Web into the shiny and green walled gardens. Now we forgot what's beyond that wall, and we're only just noticing that the garden's flowers are wilted and its grass is long since dead.

The World Wide Web is still there, only diminished by our absence and invisible behind the walls of the worst tech corporations selling us a utopia that isn't.
