Over on Bluesky, someone asked if I ever use reference photos for expressions. The answer is: CONSTANTLY. Back before digital photography, I kept a mirror propped up by my drawing board. Now I just shoot photos. Sometimes I have my studiomates pose. Other times I pose myself and use a timer. https://youtube.com/shorts/g0RetTttweo?si=Xjp5F53PaPBi5t5-

apparently i could maybe get it faster if i could get rocm working but rocm is terrible software and they officially don't support my card even to start with.

LOL, LMAO. i asked it 'balls' to test it was working and some of the reasoning is chefs kiss

  1. Check for safety/policy violations: The word "balls" can sometimes be used in suggestive or inappropriate contexts. However, in isolation, it is not inherently harmful, illegal, or explicitly hateful.
  2. Formulate a neutral and helpful response strategy: Since the intent is unknown, the best approach is to acknowledge the input and prompt the user for clarification so I can provide a relevant answer.

Screenshot of an email. Dear Terence, it is my pleasure to inform you that your project "ActivityBot" has been selected to enter the second round of the February 2026 call. While the first round is solely based on your proposal, this strict selection round is potentially interactive. As your project is looked into in more depth, the reviewers may need some additional information to properly assess your application, in which case they will contact you.

Trond Solberg posted the following: Hi, Norwegian here. A big misconception about social democracy is that everyone makes the same money, and that you can't get rich. But Norway has wealthy people, entrepreneurs, successful CEOs. The difference is that a janitor can afford healthcare. A teacher can afford a home. And the wealthy still live in a society that works. Social democracy doesn't put a ceiling on wealth. It raises the floor. Follow for more glimpses into life in a social democracy, where dignity is not a privilege.

Someone was asking me about Arabic speakers on Mastodon and the broader Fediverse. They are curious about attracting Arabic speakers.

As far as I can tell, Arabic speakers aren't a big part of Fedi compared to European languages, and are quite spread out and there's no moderately large instance with primarily Arabic speaking users.

There's a Tunisian instance, on the smaller side, but has some Arabic posts.

Anything else I can tell them?

I need a favor. A good friend of mine got laid off. She's in NYC on a H1B, and being trans means she's not very keen to return to her home country!

She's an amazing software engineer, with experience leading teams, working with stakeholders, and is happy to come in to existing code bases to improve things.

She's primarily looking for full stack and is very comfortable with TS, JS, Python and Rust, but is happy to adapt.
