@zzzeek The problem Trusted Publishing aims to solve is that if you let a pipeline auto-publish to PyPI for you, and it has a long-lived PyPI credential for doing that, it's very easy to accidentally expose that credential, and then an attacker who gets it can use it to upload packages for as long as it takes you to notice and revoke the credential.

Trusted Publishing replaces that with a more complex (behind the scenes) dance where the pipeline authenticates to PyPI and is given a short-lived narrow-scoped token. If it gets leaked, an attacker has only a very brief window of time in which to notice and try to exploit before the token expires.

“One approach, proposed by Google Research, is what you might call a “token auction.” In this model, advertisers don’t buy ad slots on a page. Instead, they bid, token by token, on the actual text the model generates. Each advertiser brings their own LLM, and an auction mechanism decides whose model gets to influence the next word. The output is a weighted blend of competing interests, shaped by who’s willing to pay more.”

this is why “prompt injection” is a bad name. it’s not a remediable vulnerability, it’s the entire way the technology works

This was quite the Erin Brockovich moment by AOC at a hearing on data centers.

Screenshot of a post from @RepAOC (Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez) on X.com, stating that the image shows what drinking water in Georgia looks like after Meta began data center construction in the community, and announcing she called for EPA and Congressional investigations into the impact of data center construction on local drinking water supplies, concluding "We cannot take water for granted." Below is a video still of Ocasio-Cortez at a Congressional hearing holding up a glass jar filled with visibly dark, murky brown water, with the subtitle reading "I have a jar right here." Her nameplate reads "Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, New York."
