Seeing the whole 'corporate pride is fake' thing going around again, and I have a few thoughts to share on this;

  1. those are usually organized by actual LGBTQIA+ allies at those companies, not just empty marketing- but that's my personal experience.

  2. This is also the reason why you won't see it in countries which are actively hostile and make it actually illegal to be LGBTQIA+ aligned, not because they're 'selective'.

  3. I'd rather have more, than less allies, but that's my personal take.

because to be quite frank, it takes quite a lot of coordinated efforts to set up and carry forth pride events at e.g big tech companies.

And to go through all that effort, just to be met with hostility from people who you presumed to be actual allies, is disheartening, and feels very wrong.

If you want to build a better world, if you want places everywhere to be more friendly towards these things, I personally don't think infighting over what is essentially puritanism, will do anyone a favour.

I really have to stress that the "hypothetically" parenthetical here is load-bearing. Nobody has *actually* had any code deleted yet by one of these LLMs, as a result of this logged prompt. If such a deletion did occur, who could even tell if it were the prompt's fault? As several production incidents have demonstrated, you're rolling dice with the deletion of all your data each time you invoke an agent anyway, this just _maybe_ weights the dice a bit differently, in a way that can't be measured

8 panel comic Panel 1: Yellow guy is working on a laptop in the background. In the foreground is a Brand Manager. Yellow Guy: “Sir, shall I put up our rainbow profile picture?” Panel 2: Brand Manger snaps his head round and hisses “Cool your jets, Eugene. I’m checking the Profitometer” Panel 3: Gonna do my best to explain this. We see The Profitometer. A huge machine that whirs and ticks. A digital display at the top of the machine reads “Supporting Pride equals”Beneath this display is a huge gauge with “Max Loss” on the left and “Max profit” on the right. There is a needle that is pointing exactly half way between the two extremes. Panel 4: Close up on Brand Manager’s face. His teeth are gritted. Sweat trickles down his brow. Panel 5: Close up on gauge. The needle remains exactly central Panel 6: Close up on Brand Manager’s eyes. They are concentrating intensely. Also, more sweat. Panel 7: Close up on the gauge. The needle clicks ONE DEGREE towards profit Panel 8: Brand Manager screams like a football coach “GO GAY EUGENE”

Trump is so evil! Journalists uncovered what many suspected: that many ICE agents have been convicted of violent crimes, including rape and murder!😮

The journalists were going to release the convictions. But Trump threatened to send the DOJ after the journalists if they did!

Folks, racism is inevitable. It’s endemic and there’s nothing we can ever do to resolve that. We have to learn to live in a world where racism is part of the norm. @dbattistella I don't believe that publicly traded for-profit companies are capable of this. I think the very fact that such a company is incentivized to perpetually extract wealth from workers and customers and give it to 3rd party share holders who contribute nothing to wealth generation beyond a one-time contribution of capital is what makes these companies grow into vile monsters over time. They are exploitative by design, and this is the dominant form of company in our economy.

It's possible to break this mold. Cooperatives are democratically controlled, and often the workers and/or customers are the shareholders, with equal shares. This changes the incentive structure from an exploitative one to, you guessed it, a cooperative one. If we could only make this the dominant form of company in our economy, we would live in a very different world where "don't be evil" was the natural order of things.

The man who wrote "Don't be evil" said he chose it specifically so it would be hard to remove. Paul Buchheit, the engineer who later built Gmail, suggested the phrase at a Google corporate values meeting on July 19, 2001.

Then in early 2018, internal documents leaked showing that Google had signed a Pentagon contract to build AI to analyze drone footage. By April, over 3,000 Google employees had signed a letter to Sundar Pichai demanding the contract be cancelled.

The letter specifically cited "Don't be evil" as the standard the company was failing to meet. Dozens of engineers resigned in protest.

Sometime between late April and early May, the slogan disappeared from the code of conduct's preface.

the fact that these LLMs are allowed to scrape everything and violate every copyleft license in existence, but we're not allowed to resist in any tangible way, is what makes LLMs technofascist by nature.
