My deeply held values (as I shared in my recent talk https://adrian.geek.nz/alt-tech-futures.pdf ):
1. Minimal environmental impact
It can never be zero, but we can minimize it.2. Simplicity
Its easy to make anything larger, it takes true ingenuity to make things smaller & cheaper.3. Inclusivity
I don't want things to become so simple that they can't be used by whomever might want to use them.4. Longevity
Get your full use out of electronics before replacing them!5. Knowledge
It is empowering!

Still playing around with Indigo, the combo Mastodon/Bluesky app. I like it but I think I like Icon Factory’s Tapestry better for reading and Croissant for crossposting; a bit more friction from using multiple apps, but maybe that’s okay.

If hopelessness has made a home in your heart, it cannot be dislodged easily or all at once. Chip away at it with small victories, moments of hope and defiance. It is not easy and it will take time and effort, but strive to make it an uncomfortable home, a place where despair is no longer welcome.

This kickstarter may be of interest to a few on fedi. Youtube poledancing archer who makes videos about historical archery, fantasy combat, & um... pole dancing, is doing a crowd funder to get hold of a properly fitting set of plate armour to do experiments in what it's possible to do in full armour. Is about 70% funded with 10 days to go.
If the project is funded we can finally answer the important historical question. Is it possible to pole dance in full plate armour?

When the backlash of the true cost of LLM becomes critical and companies start having to bend to hire and rehire talent they cut because "AI is here and we don't need humans anymore"? That needs to come with tech worker unionization.
Start planning this now if you're in a position to. Quietly. You don't have the upper hand yet, but either you will soon, or we'll all be screwed. Choose optimism for this one.

Here's the real thing Matt's scared of:
He owns the WordPress Foundation and its board is him and his two sycophants.
He personally, private owns WordPress.org and considers it all his own private property he's allowing people to use on a lark.
He owns WordPress.com and Automattic, of course.
He's realizing there's a very real chance that not only are his toys going to be taken away, but that he's also going to get busted for intermingling his organizations and treating them ALL like a melting-pot poured right into his own personal purse. We've seen him conduct similar shady shit in other lawsuits he's been involved with.
He's terrified because WordPress's org structures and his involvement in them hasn't really been under a legal microscope like this before. He's going to get wrecked a lot harder than just WordPress vs WPEngine if this suit presses deeper, which it will. The reaper's coming and this is his existential crisis moment.
