I was thinking while cycling: Perhaps a structured course could help with this. Something providing enough accountability (read: deadlines) to convince my ADHD self to do shit while being small-scope enough to only need to set aside a couple of hours a week. I think getting consistency/good habits is key to getting this to stick.

Suggestions welcome, paid or free (although probably not hundreds of pounds unless I can convince someone else to pay).

Or as @wizbean suggested, a group of people where I help out with a small part of a game project rather than a full project. (I have dabbled in non-game C++, Godot and Lua Love). I won't be able to help out more than a couple of hour a week but I'd like to develop skills (and offer my contributions in return)

But seriously: "better quality" art supplies will give you a more consistent result & allow you to refine your artworks in a way that may not be possible with cheaper or improvised art supplies, but not having them should never stop you & should certainly never cause you shame.

I make art out of everything now because I can't think of a reason not to.
