Honestly, it's quite hard to tell what's the bigger crime on that site. The use of bullshit regurgitator, "OpenSSL Corporation" :neofox_googly_woozy: or the fact that the site looks like a menu card of the most plutocratic restaurant in the galaxy :neofox_googly_shocked:

like, seriously, what kind of monster ships a very chonky looking usb-c-to-usb-c cable WITH ONLY TWO CORES AAAAAAAAA

on the other hand, if mains-voltage-over-USB is ever a thing, this cable has enough insulation to make that happen. kudos for that, I guess? I don't quite know who decided to source double-insulated 300V-cable for .. USB cables, but the world is fucked up anyway, so I guess that checks out

Photo of a treedix (no, really, that's the company name, don't blame me) USB cable tester. A white USB-C to USB-C cable is plugged in. On the tester screen, you can see that only GND and VBUS are connected, everything else is dead. There's also a vernier caliper around the cable - showing a total diameter of 4mm. Absolutely bonkers
Photo of the cable that's now cut in half, where you can see the cross-section. Inside the conky cable, there's two cores of what looks like 1mm cooper. Each core has its own isolation - colored red and black - and it's encased in a huge layer of white PVC also, yes, I have very dry hands. I don't know why either. hormones I guess, amirite???

The enclosure of the FOSS commons may seem like a programmer-specific problem, but it really affects everyone. Privacy-preserving apps like Signal, for example, serve a purpose precisely because they're open and can be audited. Take away that ability to verify the developer's claims by parsing the code, and all guarantees are lost. The more that AI vendors succeed in locking in the FOSS commons, the less transparency we'll have into what our software actually does.

PnPMD is a horrible affliction, but I can save you! I have not one, not two, but three KayoA4 pick and place machines that I need to sell in order to buy an even biggerer and fancierer machine.

Also a semi-automatic stencil printer and an IN6 reflow oven. I could sell some or all of this gear, depending on what's interesting to you. It's all open to negotiation.

I have often come across the quote below. Before reposting it, I wanted to verify it. And I found out it's from a 2005 Salon interview https://www.salon.com/2005/04/24/satrapi%5F2/ -- during the time I worked at Salon! A neat coincidence for me.

Quote from graphic novelist Marjane Satrapi: “The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don’t know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same.” Photo of a woman looking directly at camera with a very slight smile and holding a lit cigarette
