the content i watch on youtube is still mostly native english speakers, but a fairly sizeable chunk now is from people for whom it's a second language.

there are vastly more people in the world who are not native english speakers than who are, so over time in theory they should come to dominate. and so the dominant dialect we'll be hearing is this internationalised version.

at some point that becomes the new reality, doesn't it?

there is a sort of de facto "international english", that people speak when they have learned most of the language and feel confident to freestyle the rest but get it wrong.

the example that triggered this thought was a swede saying "-20 centigrades" (actual number may have been different), which isn't how we'd say it, but is perfectly understandable.

i wonder if that's just how language is going to go as we gradually simplify it
